Isan

[edit]

I don't know what your qualifications in Thai geography and demographics are, but try telling my wife she's not a Khon Isan. Yes, we all speak a Thai that is more of a dialect of Lao up here, but down in southeast Isan some 500Km away, the people mostly identify with Khmer. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 18:26, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see now that you are connected with KK uni. I taught some courses there some 18 years ago while I was Graduate School faculty at Silpakorn in BKK. You shouldn't be adding content and sourcing it to your own research paper though. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 18:33, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You asked about Isan people in Thailand; they are officially recognised by the Royal Thai Government as 'Thai Lao' (Lao of Thailand) or 'Lao Isan' (Lao of the Northeast). See Table 1, p. 95, in this cited link: http://www.rlpd.go.th/rlpdnew/images/rlpd_1/HRC/CERD%201_3.pdf. The article I cite, which was written to analyse this report, is published in Asian Ethnicity, a well regarded specialist journal on Asian ethnicity. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Existential risk from artificial general intelligence into Regulation of artificial intelligence. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 10:21, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In the future, please add attribution when copying from public domain sources: simply add the template {{PD-notice}} after your citation. I have done so for the above article. Please do this in the future so that our readers will be aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself, and that it's okay to copy verbatim. Thanks, — Diannaa (talk) 13:18, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have edited without reading carefully enough to understand the article. Part of the strategy to win, very (even most) often, is not to fight at all. Kolyvansky (talk) 20:00, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kolyvansky I don't have a problem with the quote being applied to the game in the correct context. At the moment, the quote as applied to the peace war game makes the article look essay-like , not encyclopedic. The basic problem is that Sun Tzu was not writing about the game. Ideally, you should find an author who has quoted Sun Tzu in the context of the game and use that quote. Johncdraper (talk) 07:53, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ethnic groups in Thailand, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sea Gypsies. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

An article you recently created, List of United Nations resolutions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Obvious Conflict of Interest for 2020 Thai Protests Entry

[edit]

John Drapper, according to his own CV, has written for US government funded fronts now involved directly in Thailand's protests. He has also co-authored a paper with a protest leader, Pavin Chachavalpongpun, and has written numerous op-eds critical of the current Thai government. He is clearly an activist and supports the protests and his bias has led him to attempting to conceal information and evidence critical of the protests. The US NED funding of core groups organizing the current protests is on the US NED's official website which I have linked to. Why wouldn't this be included in the article? It would be like a Russian agent repeatedly erasing evidence of the Kremlin funding groups in the US aiming to overthrow the US government. If Drapper doesn't like the format he is free to touch it up. His erasing it entirely reflects a concerted effort to conceal the information borne out of a conflict of interest.

@Resapp: There is a difference between going to bed and disruptive editing. Note that the map in its entirety was disputed by another user at the time I went to bed. Check the datestamps on the sigs on the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict Talk page. Now, the next day, I see the map is still disputed and is still not up. May I help? Johncdraper (talk) 07:54, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

:: There are 4 point notes up there and in none of them were you warned for leaving the discussion. Please read it again. Resapp (talk) 07:55, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Resapp: At the time I went to bed, an undisputed version of the map did not exist. Twelve hours later, it still does not exist. Now, perhaps I can help? Johncdraper (talk) 07:59, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

::::Yes it did exist, map was reverted to the undisputed version at 17:59[3], after which you were told to revert 3 times. Yet you commented "I'm going to bed"[4] despite being warned 3 times at 18:34. Resapp (talk) 08:59, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Resapp: It was not a comment; it was a declaration of intent. Now, how may I help on the map? As you may note from my contributions, one of the many things I do on Wikipedia is that I rate hundreds of UN Security Council resolutions for the WPIR project, which involves parsing the precise language used, something that my MA in Applied Linguistics helps with. Have I now sufficiently cleared up the Turkic Council position for the map to be revised? Johncdraper (talk) 09:11, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

::::::If you want to stop this disruptive editing spree, I've once again reverted to the undisputed revision. So I would take it that you are no longer disruptively editing if you restore to the undisputed revision now. Resapp (talk) 09:13, 1 October 2020 (UTC) Here's the code, it should be added under International Reactions title. Resapp (talk) 09:16, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  Called for peace
  Azerbaijan
  Supports Azerbaijan
  Armenia
  Supports Armenia
  Nagorno-Karabakh
@Resapp: My problem is not the map, at this stage; it is the key. The problem is that 'support' is not defined. Support for what, exactly? Given the rhetoric, support for Armenia could imply support for Armenia in a nationalistic war. Support for Azerbaijan could imply support for a counter-attack into the disputed area. So, I suggest a change to the key: Support for Azerbaijani territorial integrity Vs. ??? I am honestly not sure what support for Armenia implies. Support for the Nagorno-Karabakh Line of Contact? Johncdraper (talk) 09:31, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not adhering to neutral point of view

[edit]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy by adding commentary and your personal analysis into articles, you may be blocked from editing. You have removed a statement by the Turkic Council that called for Armenian withdrawal from occupied Azerbaijani territory without explaining it in your edit summary.[5] On top of the serious violation yesterday this raises your warning level.Resapp (talk) 09:21, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Resapp: I strongly recommend you report me now. I would rather get this over with so that I can get on with things. Johncdraper (talk) 09:35, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

:: Lol, here you go Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard#Johncdraper Resapp (talk) 09:42, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. In my experience with Arbcom, it sometimes helps to clear the air as soon as possible. Now, for the Turkic Council statement, note that I have now substituted the exact words, as a quote, for the previous paraphrase, which you state is 'personal analysis'. Note that the Turkic Council is echoing a UNSC demand, not issuing its own demand, at least not based on the version copied to the Talk page. Now, what are your thoughts on the Key so that we can make some progress with the map? Johncdraper (talk) 09:50, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you've restored the removed material. Resapp (talk) 10:11, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Resapp: No, I didn't restore a 'demand' by the Turkic Council. Again, note that the Turkic Council is not demanding anything. It is reminding parties of a UNSC demand. This is technically called 'echoing'. If you disagree, you might like to try reporting me again. Now, can we fix the key to the map?Johncdraper (talk) 10:20, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

::::::What is there to fix? The undisputed revision shows the “‘’official’’” position of the countries. Russia, albeit suspected of providing equipment support has offficially only called for a ceasefire. The rest on the map is accurate. Resapp (talk) 11:10, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Resapp: I think you missed my comment in the section above on the key. Johncdraper (talk) 11:14, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

::::::::Diplomatic support surely. Resapp (talk) 11:48, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Resapp: Diplomatic support for what? Not robust enough to survive an edit war (not between you and I, but between an Azerbaijani and an Armenian). What about 'Diplomatic support for UN position on Azerbaijani territorial integrity' vs. 'Diplomatic support for maintenance of Nagorno-Karabakh line of contact'? Johncdraper (talk) 11:55, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

::::::::::Sure that works. Resapp (talk) 12:03, 1 October 2020 (UTC) [reply]

I see you got banned for being a sockpuppet. It is always unfortunate when people go too far. If you had, perhaps, engaged with me at the beginning instead of harassed me, and others, this may not have happened. Hopefully, we will meet again when your ban is up. Armenia/Azerbaijan discretionary sanctions

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Armenia, Azerbaijan, or related conflicts. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Novaya Gazeta report

[edit]

Well, here is the link of the report. They took some interviews in Shusha. Here are some interesting quotes from it:

Also:

And the most interesting part:

I hope you can find good stuff from here. I didn't want to paraphrase it, because as a user from a combatant country, I might be slightly biased at least. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 09:57, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note Novaya Gazeta has already been used in the article, where they confirmed the existence of SNA fighters. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 09:58, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Solavirum: Okay. So, the Russian source is stating that a civilian cultural center (the House/Palace of Culture) in Shusha was being used by Armenian forces for a meeting and was then bombed on October 4, resulting in nearly two dozen casualties. Is that correct? Re accounts of what is happening on the front, they are anecdotal and may be being highlighted by the Russian source for a variety of reasons. In other words, I do not view them as sufficiently reliable and/or comprehensive to put out in the Wikipedia voice. Johncdraper (talk) 10:41, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Johncdraper:, alright, but let me note that Armenian government cancelled the accreditation of the same journalist reporting this. So, the report itself might have represented the reality after all. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 11:35, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Solavirum: So, you are suggesting to add to the article "On 4 October, a civilian cultural center in Shusha that was apparently being used by Armenian forces for a briefing was bombed, resulting in nearly two dozen casualties.", with the citation? Is that it? Johncdraper (talk) 11:42, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh boy, I didn't got the notification after the retag. Well, I was talking about casualities. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 15:21, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

October 1: Martuni inclusion

[edit]

Hi Johncdraper,

Here is the same portion from the main talk page reposted:

Ok, thank you. Regarding Oct. 1 in Martuni, there is also this source for the following quote & image: https://ca.reuters.com/article/us-armenia-azerbaijan-idCAKBN26M5IJ "A house, which locals said was damaged during a recent shelling by Azeri forces, is pictured at the town of Martuni in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh October 1, 2020. Areg Balayan/ArmGov/PAN Photo Handout via REUTERS ATTENTION EDITORS - THIS IMAGE HAS BEEN SUPPLIED BY A THIRD PARTY. NO RESALES. NO ARCHIVES. MANDATORY CREDIT." It sounds like this image could be used so long as credit is given. Is that right?

Additionally, there is timing shared on reddit from another source, which mentions both civilian and journalist involvement: https://www.reddit.com/r/armenia/comments/j3g62t/oct12020_events_war_in_karabakhartsakh_yerevan/ Could we include such timing? Here, I can type out anything to be included.

Ok, this is Le Figaro caption: Médusé, un homme se tient devant la maison de son frère détruite par des bombardements, jeudi à Martouni, dans le Haut-Karabakh. -/AFP https://www.lefigaro.fr/international/le-conflit-du-haut-karabakh-nouveau-defi-d-ankara-a-moscou-20201001 I'll look into posting this on your own page too. Thank you & have a good day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SacredForest (talkcontribs) 04:07, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SacredForest: On the photo, the basic problem is that it can't be used on Wikipedia. The copyright needs to be completely 'open', i.e., it needs to allow sharing and alteration for commercial purposes. For reddit, we can't use reddit itself. Which source are you interested in on the page? I understand the photo caption. The situation is certainly tragic. Johncdraper (talk) 07:00, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Johncdraper, On the reddit page, there is a timeline of events which would be supportive of the timeline (2.1 Timeline of military engagements) already in place on Wiki. I've listed 3 below. If you use ctrl+f for Martuni, you'll find these entries easily: 13:53 - 18:25: several French Le Monde journalists were targeted by Azerbaijani/Turkish fire while at civilian Martuni city. Two French citizens and Armenians were wounded; one Armenian civilian has died. 14:54 Russian media: Russian Rain TV journalist Dmitri Yelovski and colleagues were under fire in Martuni city. No injuries. They're in a bomb shelter. They published the video showing the moment when the bomb fell near them. 18:40: Azerbaijan's bombardment of civilian Martuni city has left 4 dead and 11 wounded, including the aforementioned journalists. "This is an international war crime. GRAD was used to target the city center," said the Human Rights Ombudsman. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1029846.html

Also, there is a separate discussion on the talk page that cannot seem to be found anymore. I was away for a time, but wouldn't there be a record maintained of all discussions? Perhaps there's an archive? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SacredForest (talkcontribs) 06:08, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit on 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

[edit]

Hi! I readded a shorter mention on the timeline about two civilians reportedly being killed in Hadrut on October 10, since other causalities have been briefly mentioned. The text disappeared in your last edit. So I'm clear - do you think all mention of civilian deaths should be restricted to the "Civilian casualities" section? AntonSamuel (talk) 13:17, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@AntonSamuel: My personal philosophy is that evevry human life counts. On Wikipedia, this depends on the death toll; proportionality is important. A mass casualty incident, for example, would be mentioned, though not the death toll as that cannot yet be reliably established yet. Johncdraper (talk) 13:26, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Johncdraper: I understand. Thank you for your input! AntonSamuel (talk) 13:35, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, regarding your removal of the extra text and tag in the caption for the featured picture of the Mosque, I've explained my view on this on the talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:2020_Nagorno-Karabakh_conflict#Further_sources_needed_for_Ganja_mosque_damage_claim It's true that the page features many conflicting and unconfirmed claims from the different sides, however placing the picture of the mosque, which no neutral sources have confirmed to be hit and no visual evidence has been presented to confirm the claim, next to the damaged Armenian cathedral in Shushi, that numerous sources have confirmed to have been hit and have provided visual evidence of that, I would argue is quite problematic and misleading with regard to WP:NPOV. AntonSamuel (talk) 15:31, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@AntonSamuel: I saw that and am investigating this right now (Add: I checked earlier this am and found no independent confirmation but need to confirm); this is a temporary fix. Johncdraper (talk) 15:37, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this revert is going to solve the problem. You'd have to manually replace it :d sorry for this inconvenience --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 15:20, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Might need help

[edit]

Hey! What's up? Well, I was going to ask if you can help me with this article in my sandbox regarding the clashes. I thought it might need third-party involvement, and as you are already mediating the article on the main conflict, I decided to ask you first for help. Cheers! --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 21:55, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fuzuli, Jabrayil and Hadrut

[edit]

Hi. Can you help me out with splitting the aforementioned battles in sandbox? We've got everything we need in the main article. But converting them to these articles are going to bit complicated. Referendum on Independence - Nagorno Karabakh

[edit]

Hi @Johncdraper:. I looked at your write up in the talk page for the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Article. Thank you for it. I reproduce it here

Following both Armenia and Azerbaijan's independence from Soviet rule in early 1992, Nagorno-Karabakh declared independence and Azerbaijan revoked its autonomous status. A referendum subsequently characterised as a reductio ad absurdum of the region's legal status was held on 10 December, 1991, boycotted by the Azerbaijani population, which then constituted around 22.8%: 99.8% voted in favor.

Could you share the source? Something seems to be off with the chronology as it says "following...1992" but mentions the referendum happening on 10 December 1991 (i.e. before 1992). In the meantime I will look for sources on the topic. I agree it may take some time, but I believe it is an important point to clarify. Thanks again--Sataralynd (talk) 03:33, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Independence was formally confirmed by membership of the United Nations. Would you provide a better form of words? Johncdraper (talk) 06:55, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Johncdraper: Thanks. Sorry for taking some time but I did some research and I think we could provide clarity by adding a few details. Here goes
On 20 February 1988, the Soviet of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast passed a resolution requesting transfer of the oblast from Azerbaijan SSR to Armenia SSR. (Source is Page 11 of The Black Garden). Azerbaijan rejected the request several times and followed by revoking Nagorno-Karabakh's autonomous status. A referendum was held on 10 December 1991 in Nagorno-Karabakh, and was unsuccessfully boycotted by the Azerbaijani population which then constituted around 22.8%: 99.8% voted in favor. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan became fully independent of the Soviet Union in 1992 --Sataralynd (talk) 02:40, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Prayuth speech

[edit]

I see that you added the 21 October speech from the PM at 2020 Thai protests#State response and arrests. I hadn't seen it and added similiar text at 2020 Thai protests#Second wave (July–present), which is also where the intial severe emergency details are. I'm not sure if all state actions should be put off into a separate section, as it can make it hard for the reader to understand the flow. At least all the severe emergency details should be in one place, wherever that is. I'm new to the article, so I'm interested in your thoughts. Unhelpful edit summaries on 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine

[edit]

Hi, Johncdraper. Thanks for your contributions to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine page, but please don't use edit summaries like this or this, among others. While it might feel cathartic, it's not helpful for the purpose of Wikipedia--if nothing else, it provides another angle that people can use to say that Wikipedia is biased against Russia. Your edit on the Russian invasion article I needed to rollback because another editor started the Polls section there without consensus on the Talk page which is still in progress. All editors are welcome to join in the Talk page discussion there until consensus is formed. ErnestKrause (talk) 16:58, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Those were nice comments you added on the Talk page of the Invasion article and I've left an answer about them on that Talk page. Separately, I'm noticing from your User page that you might have an interest in science fiction literature which I've been discussing with another user about Psychohistory (fictional) ‎and the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. If its something that you might like to comment on, then you could drop a line about it on the Talk page either here or on one of those two articles I've just linked. ErnestKrause (talk) 00:11, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I might be interested. As you can see from its Talk page, I'm actually the person who saved the Multivac page. Let me think it over. Johncdraper (talk) 09:39, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nice going at Multivac. In case you might be interested in possibly joining, this is the thread with User:Piotrus about the Asimov material on psychohistory, etc, here: [6]. ErnestKrause (talk) 20:10, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also nice going on the edits you made at the psychohistory article. The 3 branches of mathematics which match up with the objectives Asimov stated for psychohistory are found in economic forecasting, the mathematical study of population dynamics and, third, optimal estimation theory; it would be nice to use these in the article since they match up with Asimov's own definitions of psychohistory as found in the Foundation trilogy. Separately, I've left a comment on the Talk page about Existential threats of AI which you recently edited which might be of interest if you have any comments or edits. ErnestKrause (talk) 14:23, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit on the Reaction section of the Ukraine article was changed back because another editor appears to be reverting without following Wikipedia policy. The edit you made to phychohistory, by the way, I thought was quite good; are there more edits on Asimov coming and on the way? ErnestKrause (talk) 14:03, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think you need to try to write something on Russian polling, as I indicate on the Talk page. On psychohistory, I would like to add, yes, but I first a need to find those two cites I added in the lede. Johncdraper (talk) 14:14, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My interest is in both of your comments. If you have a suggestion for adding a phrase or a sentence to the polling discussion that would improve the redirect to the main article on polling then let me know. Regarding the psychohistory, just let me know if I might be able to help in locating sources and which ones are the more important ones for your approach; User:Piotrus might also be able to assist on these sources. Voting for coordinators is now open!

[edit]

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election have opened. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting will commence on 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:41, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
