Playstation

[edit]

Hi! I removed the bit you put in the PS3 article, but not because I think it is bad info or anything. I just don't think the lead is the best place for it. It is an FA so I think we should be extra careful what we add and where. While it is certainly verifiable some may say that we don't need to add these kinds of reviews at all as we will then have to choose who gets their review in and who dosent. IGN is pretty big though so I think it would make the cut. Maybe in the "Reception" section? Colincbn (talk) 03:03, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IGN top 25

[edit]

Hi. I have reverted your edits to various console articles about their placing in IGN's top 25 list. This is not because the info is bad, but more the manner in which it is used. Saying that a console as Xth on the list is not really enough to be notable (it needs more discussion as to why it is the case). Also, the lead (intro bit at the top of the page) is not the place to put it - it should go in the reception (or similar) section if it goes anywhere.

As an example of what I mean, for the PS3 one you wrote "In 2009, video game website IGN called the PS3 the 15th greatest video game console of all time, behind both the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2". This doesn't tell the reader anything about the console, only that IGN preferred the PS1 & PS2 (as well as 13 other consoles) to the PS3. In order to be notable, it would really need to say why it was on the top 25 list (things like "it helped Blu-ray win the HD video war" or "it has a great line up of both first and third party games") and possibly why it wasn't higher on the list (which doesn't seem to be mentioned on the page itself, but may be on some of the higher-up entries (something along the lines of "the Xbox 360 beat its rival the PS3 because…").

Anyway, I hope it's clear what I mean.

Alphathon /'æl.f'æ.ðɒn/ (talk) 18:57, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"You were very cordial and sincere in explaining why you were removing the IGN top 25 stuff…"
Thank you, I see no reason to do otherwise .
"…but I still question it."
Fair enough, everyone entitled to opinions etc. Lets see if we can get this sorted out
"I believe it's relevant as IGN is one of, if not the, premier gaming websites out there. If IGN chose the Intellivision, I consider that important, and I believe that it deserves to be mentioned."
It is relevant, I don't dispute that, it's just that on its own (i.e. just saying "X console is Y on IGN's list") it isn't really enough to justify inclusion. The article is about the PS3 (or whatever, I'll just use that as an example for now), and as such covers more than just its popularity.
A good rule of thumb is to look at similar things that are already in the article and try to follow the same form (where appropriate). Take this paragraph from PS3 → Reception → Original Model for example (which is about criticisms):
"The PS3 was given the number-eight spot on PC World magazine’s list of "The Top 21 Tech Screwups of 2006", where it was criticized for being "Late, Expensive and Incompatible". GamesRadar ranked the PS3 as the top item in a feature on game-related PR disasters, asking how Sony managed to "take one of the most anticipated game systems of all time and — within the space of a year — turn it into a hate object reviled by the entire internet", but added that despite its problems the system has "untapped potential". Business Week summed up the general opinion by stating that it was "more impressed with what [the PlayStation 3] could do than with what it currently does"."
Each sentence points out the opinion of the publication, followed by reasons. If the reasons are not included, the entire reception section could be removed and replaced with a list of people/publications that liked it and disliked it (or something to that effect). Doing so would be a bad idea though, as would not offer any critical analysis of the PS3. The point of the page is to provide information (in this case on the strengths and weaknesses of the system), not to provide a list of those who rated it well/poorly. Also it helps to put things in perspective - if loads of publications criticise for one main point, and others praise it for many varying ones it shows a broader range of opinion (and as such is likely to be closer to community opinion at large… fanboys aside of course). Naturally, if it were part of a list of awards etc (for an example, see the table on the right of Fallout: New Vegas#Reception), its inclusion simply as-is would be OK, but such a list is not in place (mainly due to the analysis, which is almost always preferable to a plain list… that and simple lists are rarely added to console articles).
If you're still not sure about anything, you can always contact me again and discuss it further. Cheers, Alphathon /'æl.f'æ.ðɒn/ (talk) 20:34, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Plato Truman

[edit]

Do you have a source for Truman running for office as a U.S. Labor Party member? I found a source which says he campaigned in 1986 as a member of "Labor for Maine", an unrelated party.   Will Beback  talk  01:57, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure there's a mix-up, so I'll go ahead and remove it. If you find a source that says Truman ran as a U.S. Labor Party (instead of Labor for Maine) member then we can add it back. 08:12, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm guessing that I just misunderstood when I saw "Labor Party" on the Maine's 1st congressional district. I apologize. MAINEiac4434 (talk) 13:52, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip - I've fixed it in that article as well. There have been a number of "labor" parties in the US over the years. It's a bit confusing.   Will Beback  talk  19:54, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit

[edit]

Your recent edit to Gil Scott-Heron was reverted, as it was cited with video links, which did not support your conclusion that the Scott-Heron composition was sampled in West's song. Whatever is being cited should be faithful to the source's content and not a conclusion based on multiple citations. The information you added was already present in the article's "Influence" section, but for future edits, try to avoid citing video links such as YouTube, as they have questionable reliability and copyright (Wikipedia:Video links). Thank you. Dan56 (talk) 01:41, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if I explained it unclearly, but my point was not that that is the conclusion, but that you need a source that says exactly what you are saying in the text you added. We can't extrapolate, infer, or make a synthesis of the references' content; Wikipedia:No original research: "analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to advance a position not advanced by the sources". Here are some examples to understand the policy better. Your claims are correct about Scott-Heron and West's songs, but Wikipedia still requires a proper source. Also, the bit about "West named Scott-Heron, among others, as a major influence", and the following statement, "Lost in the World's featuring of Scott-Heron is subtle, while 'Who Will Survive in America' is a sample and remix of 'Comment #1'", is an unsourced claim. I've replaced the YouTube citations with more reliable sources that directly support the first statement, but for future edits, please use references that are more direct to the content added. Dan56 (talk) 20:22, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Pawlenty.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. LA Galaxy Badge

[edit]

Please stop changing the description for the LA Galaxy Badge. The way it is listed is correct. The badge bears 1 Gold star and three silver ones. 4 (1 + 3) as it is appears for all other clubs on the list (let's keep it uniform please) the Gold star symbolizes the CONCACAF Champions League title won, and the three silver stars represent three MLS Cups one (they have won 4). The fourth star however is worn as the gold MLS shield which appears on the shirt in form of a trophy on a separate badge (similar to how it is the custom in Portugal, Italy and so forth for cup winning clubs). The fourth MLS Cup star will then be added to the badge at the end of the season, and start of the new season. I am reverting your changes, if you still deem it necessary to debate, please open a discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football and we can further discuss this, otherwise I will consider this Wikipedia:Edit warring and we will have to go about this differently, thank you for understanding, and I look forward to your reply. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Can you please not update this article (and others) until matches have finished? If the match were to be abandoned right now, those appearances wouldn't count, so it doesn't make sense to update the article until after the match. – PeeJay 20:02, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 01:07, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Formal mediation has been requested

[edit]
The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Maine gubernatorial election, 2018". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 17 July 2018.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

RonBot (talk) 17:22, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why I apologized

[edit]

Simply, you responded to me assuming I was just stating a personal opinion. I apologized because I didn't make it clear that the issue is about the long standing, policy-based, general consensus.

As I said, adding external links to lists has been rejected time and time again. --Ronz (talk) 19:39, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re Maine election edit

[edit]

I reverted the edit initially because the Endorsements sections generally contain persons/groups who have made an affirmative statement of support for a candidate("I support John Public" or "I am voting for John Public"). One can donate money to a candidate(we had that discussion I think on that article) and host an event for a candidate without endorsing them. I'll mention this on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 21:08, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would add I think (like with money) it is a BLP issue. 331dot (talk) 21:11, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@331dot: It's one thing to donate money. It's a totally different thing to be added to the host committee of an overtly partisan event, have your name be printed on posters for that event, and pledge to attend that overtly partisan event. It's a GOTV thing for Mills. It's not a discussion or a debate or a Q&A or a townhall. It's a party trying to get young people out to vote for Janet Mills. It's the same thing cited (now dead) in the Galgay Reckitt endorsement of Mills; Galgay Reckitt was on the host committee of a house party for Janet Mills. List of suicides

[edit]

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for working to improve the site with your edit to List of suicides, as we really appreciate your participation. However, a portion the edit had to be reverted, because Wikipedia cannot accept uncited material. Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the article text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here. Thanks. RationalAndLiterate (talk) 21:16, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Small text

[edit]

Please don't add "small" text to infoboxes, like you did with this edit. MOS:ACCESS#Text / MOS:FONTSIZE say: "Avoid using smaller font sizes in elements that already use a smaller font size, such as infoboxes, navboxes and reference sections." The font in infoboxes needs to be no less than 85% of normal font size to be accessible, and small text inside an infobox, which is by default smaller than 100%, is out of compliance. Uploading images

[edit]

The political party logos you uploaded were described as being free images on the basis that they were "simple geometric shapes". Neither were simple geometric shapes - one included a lion rampant, and the other some kind of bear. As these were unambiguosly copyright violations, I have deleted them.

Looking at the rest of your talk page, which seems to be mostly warnings about image uploads, may I suggest that you stop uploading images, as you do not seem to have a clear grasp on what is acceptable or not. Thanks, Number 57 23:19, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Ronnie Kroell presidential campaign logo.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Decorative non-free use of a political campaign logo in 2020 United States presidential election#Independent or unaffiliated. A non-free logo such as this would almost certainly be OK to use for primary identification purposes in the main infobox or at the top of a stand-alone article about the campaign itself, but it's non-free use in this particular article doesn't comply with WP:NFCC#8, WP:NFLIST, MOS:LOGO and WP:NFTABLES

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:52, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The third number in a party/caucus percentage fraction is the number of decimal places, not the number of vacancies

[edit]

Just thought I'd let you know that since you changed the number of decimal places in the table for the Maine House of Representatives from 2 to 1 when you updated the page to reflect Joe Perry (D)'s win in House District 124, and then changed the number from 1 to 2 when you updated the page to reflect Dale Denno (D)'s resignation in House District 45. I changed the number back to 1 which seems to be the general practice (although it doesn't use trailing 0s so the Maine Senate is shown as 60% D to 40% R and the percentage of "Independents" (Unenrolled members) in the Maine House rounds to 4%). Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Podemos (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Manchester United Captains

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your edit on the List of Manchester United F.C. players regarding the images as I didn't realise they extended into the ref section. However I moved those originally to separate them as captains. So as a result could we move all images into the upper section or bulk out the captain's section with some sort of stats/honours table in order to keep captains together. Seemed appropriate to ask you first so let me know if I should put this staigh on the talk page. Thankyou. Mn1548 (talk) 13:08, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I understand where you're coming from! However, I think we should reserve it to players who either distinguished themselves as captains (Keane, Robson) or were only notable as United players by being captains (Jenkyns), and the current captain (so when the newest captain is announced, Valencia's picture is replaced by one of the new captain).

Let me know what you think about this. MAINEiac4434 (talk) 22:49, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you're saying regarding reserving the images for iconic captains, but that can become a bit subjective, eg Rooney, who was an iconic United captain but had most of his United career as a non-captain. And regarding and images for current captain, that would sound more appropriate if the captain's section was it's own page like List of England national football team captains where Kane is at the top and he is moved to the bottom when he is replaced. With club football though I can't see much consistency across other pages so it's hard to say what to do. That's why I suggested a honours/stats table to give us more room to work with regarding images. Thanks for your thoughts. Mn1548 (talk) 12:24, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, please remember to cite sources when adding new entries to List of Chapo Trap House episodes. The individual episode listing at either Soundcloud or Patreon should be adequate as a reliable source. Sourcing the list as you go will reduce the workload for whoever eventually takes on the task of manually sourcing each individual episode on the list. Kansas Senator map

[edit]

You seem to have figured out how to change the graphic/map of party distribution of seats. I'll be darned if I can. I took out the textual description of composition (to 11 "D"s and 29 "R"s) with Doll changing back to Republican in August of 2019, but I've spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to change the map (the yellow to blue) without success. It says this should be done "by hand." I must be using the wrong hand. I hope you have the time to sort it out. Thanks very much for your assistance regardless of whether or not you can manage this. Kelly Ayotte

[edit]

Hey there. Would you mind reverting your change to the 2024 New Hampshire gubernatorial election page? The source you added is a brand new account that is being described by GOP politicians in New Hampshire as not being connected to Ayotte. I can't revert myself as I've reverted the information enough times, but the source is not reliable. Thanks! ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 17:16, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why moving Renua?

[edit]

Why did you move the page Renua to Centre Party of Ireland? I see no recent discussion about this move. But there is a prior discussion here with the outcome not to move. The Banner talk 17:57, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@The Banner Apologies, I completely misread that discussion. I thought the outcome was to move and no one had done it yet. MAINEiac4434 (talk) 18:09, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
