I'm reviewing the article right now, I was running for ArbCom, then I was hospitalized for illness so I was highly distracted, very sorry for the delay, also with Paul Blair (baseball) he was on my watchlist for a long time, good fella that deserves a better article, wanna work on it. Secret account 16:03, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Sorry to hear about your illness. Hope you're doing better. And ArbCom, I didn't follow that but I hope you won. I was sad about Blair too, I met him a few years ago at Camden Yards. Nice guy. I can help work on it later, I just have a few minutes online now during my Christmas vacation. And no worries about Latos. Let me know when your review is done and I'll address what issues exist. I'll be back to my normal editing schedule next week. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:39, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Yea I had some Blair autographs in my collection very underrated player. I withdrew right before the elections (I was the infamous withdrawn candidate on the ballot). I read the Latos article twice and comments should be done tomorrow, not much to fix. Secret account 02:51, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!

Hello Muboshgu, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! Hi. I notice you recently assessed this article. Who is authorised to make these assessments? What is the process? I have reviewer rights. Am I able to make these assessments? Thanks --Greenmaven (talk) 20:40, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Anyone can change the ratings. We do it based on Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:56, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello! Your submission of Hal Peck at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Mindmatrix 22:03, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi!

I dropped by to ask for clarification why you think that the article about Keith Mars in unencyclopedic. I tend to think otherwise. Civeel (talk) 17:38, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

I don't see anything that would make it encyclopedic. Meaning, anything that would make it meet WP:GNG. It's simply a WP:PLOT summary of a TV show character, but doesn't suggest that this character meets any criteria for being notable. I was going to merge them all (I got interrupted by real life before I finished), but can go through with a nomination for deletion if need be. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:47, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Barry Loudermilk Page

Dear Muboshgu, It has come to our attention that the Wikepedia article for Barry Loudermilk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Loudermilk) contains inaccurate information in the following online text: “Loudermilk and fellow state senator William Ligon were implicated in a racial discrimination suit brought upon them by a worker in their shared office in 2011. The case was settled by the State of Georgia.”

The article itself states that it was the Democrats who "implicated" the two Senators and not the case itself.

In a reasonable and good faith effort to maintain the accuracy and integrity of Wikipedia’s web content, we respectfully request a removal of the text above. Thank you very much.

Rob Adkerson Loudermilk for Congress — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.155.7.185 (talk) 16:59, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

It's a poor choice of words. They were actually "implicated" by their former employee. I rephrased the sentence. It doesn't mention the Democrats and their call for Loudermilk and Ligon to resign. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:47, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for superb article creation, specifically related to baseball. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:AutomaticStrikeout submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

A veteran Wikipedian with over 100,000 edits, Mubsoghu specializes in content creation, having produced almost a thousand articles. Mubsoghu's main editing activity comes in the fields of baseball, politics, US history and comedy. His work is featured on the DYK section of the main page with an almost dizzying frequency and he has nearly 50 GAs. I have personally worked with Mubsoghu at WikiProject Baseball, where his efforts in article maintenance are all the more impressive when coupled with with his prolific content creation. Although Mubsoghu has been privately lauded by many of his fellow editors, I do not believe that his impressive track record is given the widespread recognition that one might expect. He is most definitely a worthy candidate for Editor of the Week.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Decriminalization of non-medical cannabis in the United States

What exactly is your problem with the edit I made to the above-referenced page? The source I cited was more authoritative than 90% of the other sources cited on that page and you know that very well. The head of the DEA clearly cited the source of her statement (which I directly quoted) in her article; this is it: White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, "What Americans Need to Know about Marijuana," 10; Dutch Health, Welfare, and Sports Ministry, report, April 23, 2004; University of Tilburg (Netherlands), "Coffeeshops in the Netherlands 2003," September 2004. For the record, this was my revision: "Teen use of marijuana in the Netherlands where it is sold legally and openly is lower than in the United States because "[a]fter marijuana use became legal, consumption nearly tripled among 18- to 20-year-olds.... [and then] [a]s awareness of the harm of marijuana grew, the number of cannabis coffeehouses in the Netherlands decreased 36 percent in six years." You want to leave out the recorded history of why the consumption is now lower in the Netherlands and the fact of how the consumption nearly tripled among young people before it decreased. The question is why would you want to hide that information from the public? The current statement about the Netherlands that you are publishing, which leaves out the historical facts, is a clear misrepresentation of the facts. What makes you think that you can publish falsehoods as fact? If you persist in publishing misinformation and refuse to publish accurate facts, I will have to report your misconduct to authorities and media outside of this Wikipedia network. It is really as simple as that. ResearchfirmUSA (talk) 01:55, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

As the writer of the only current player article FA I could find (Derek Jeter), I was hoping you would be able to offer me some advice on what Jim Thome needs to attain FA status. It already has one failed FA, and though I am receiving feedback on the talk page, the more the merrier. No particular rush. Go Phightins! 20:39, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Good luck. It took me (I think) four FA noms to get Jeter to pass. I can take a look in the next week or so. I'd also suggest pinging Y2Kcrazyjoker. Mariano Rivera isn't active any longer, but he was when he got the article promoted. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:49, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Peter O'Brien

What are you talking about? There is only one Peter O'Brien. There is Pete's but no other Peters.--Yankees10 20:59, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Pete is short for Peter. Hence someone typing "Peter O'Brien" could be referring to any of them. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:00, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
But he is the only one that goes by Peter. Meaning there doesn't need to be the catcher disambugation.--Yankees10 21:03, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
I disagree with you. Rather than go back and forth, should we bring this to WP:BASEBALL discuss how this article should be named? – Muboshgu (talk) 21:13, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
This is silly. There shouldn't even have to be a discussion. Only one player goes by Peter the others go by Pete. It would be the same thing if one player went by Joe and another Joseph or Jim and Jimmy etc.--Yankees10 21:19, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
It is silly, but that's why I'd rather put it in the hands of the community rather than just the two of us. Peter is Pete. Joe is Joseph. It's all the same, and all requires disambiguation. Why do you think those individuals listed as "Pete O'Brien" were on the "Peter O'Brien" disambiguation page? – Muboshgu (talk) 21:22, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

So do you think Daniel Murphy (baseball) should be moved to Daniel Murphy (second baseman) because there was a Dan Murphy (baseball)?--Yankees10 21:45, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

If there's only two of them, then a dab page isn't necessary, and hat notes at the top are sufficient. If there's more than two, and neither is a WP:PRIMARY topic, then yes, it's needed. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:41, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
I see there's way more than two Dan or Danny Murphy's who've played in MLB. This needs discussion. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:43, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 January newsletter

The 2014 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with, at time of writing, 138 participants. The is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2010. If you are yet to join the competition, don't worry- the judges have agreed to keep the signups open for a few more days. By a wide margin, our current leader is newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), whose set of 14 featured pictures, the first FPs of the competition, was worth 490 points. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

Featured articles, featured lists, featured topics and featured portals are yet to play a part in the competition. The judges have removed a number of submissions which were deemed ineligible. Typically, we aim to see work on a project, followed by a nomination, followed by promotion, this year. We apologise for any disappointment caused by our strict enforcement this year; we're aiming to keep the competition as fair as possible.

Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may be interested to take part in The Core Contest; unlike the WikiCup, The Core Contest is not about audited content, but, like the WikiCup, it is about article improvement; specifically, The Core Contest is about contribution to some of Wikipedia's most important article. Of course, any work done for The Core Contest, if it leads to a DYK, GA or FA, can earn WikiCup points.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. DYK Help #2

Hi Muboshgu,

I see that the old discussion got archived, since I forgot to reply. I have gotten 3 DYKs at this point, two of which I created, the other I expanded and got to GA status just after it was put on the main page. However, I just want to know what magic you do to get your NFL and MLB players DYKs? I'm currently working on several articles, but perhaps Jack Fournier could be a good DYK after I expand it? I want some advice, especially in the realm of BLP DYKs. Sportsguy17 (TC) 22:55, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

One other thing, want to work with me to get Michael Sam to GA status? I'd love to help out with an NFL article, a topic I wish to focus a little more on . Sportsguy17 (TC) 03:54, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi. There is no "magic" per say. A page like Fournier's is a decent candidate for expansion. When I intend to expand an article, rather than it just happens organically, I look for as many sources as I can find, and then I go. Try to write at least one sentence for every season. Fill in all the major details, like transactions and statistics. As for Sam, he might be a good GA candidate soon. It's missing info on his sophomore and junior seasons at Mizzou, maybe some high school career information as well. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:07, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Definitely Fournier is good for expansion and is really my next goal. I've found a few good sources so far. Since I am a WikiCup participant, I'm tapering on content for the next few weeks since a) the first round ends soon and with 57 points right now (you have 65 ), I'm in ~30th, almost guaranteeing that I advance and b) I have an exam coming up that I'm spending a chunk of term break studying for. In my spare time, I'm either doing this or hanging out with family or friends. With regards to Sam, nice on getting it to the DYK section . Secondly, I can work in the realm of his college years if you want to look at high school stuff. Thanks, Sportsguy17 (TC) 22:16, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

You also seem active in the U.S. Congress realm. Can you also tell me what is needed to get Ed Markey to GA status? Sportsguy17 (TC) 19:44, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

I reviewed the article, just a few nitpicks. Thanks Secret account 21:42, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

The nickname thing isn't a huge deal. I don't really care much that you have removed it. I just saw that it has been used on SB Nation Dodgers fansite True Blue LA, establishing that some fans call him that due to Vin Scully doing so. It is also listed on his Baseball Reference page. I thought that showed enough widespread use to mention on the page. The article on the Dodgers' official website is just what I decided to use. If not, and I am mistaken, no worries. Best, Vycl1994 (talk)

Gotcha. I just kinda gotta agree with this, which suggests that putting a nickname so early in the article is not ideal. We can open a discussion on this of our own to get a larger community consensus one way or the other. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:30, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for your work! I saw your old comment on the talk page about the waiver claim not being official--what a story that was! Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 13:32, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Right, there was all that too... That mess was a source of a lot of my edits on that page. People never want to wait for a transaction to become official, no matter how many Grant Balfour's and Tyler Colvin's happen. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:29, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

"sigh"

Explain.--Yankees10 17:58, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Sorry. That was not the most appropriate edit summary. There was content, you simply removed it from the minor league page and didn't put it at what was the redirect where it belonged. I think it's a salvageable article. I just unmerged Tyler Tufts this morning because he was released by Texas, put the content there, and put it up for PROD. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:00, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. A PROD would have been better. But do you really find this guy notable? He's incredibly run-of-the-mill to me with little amount of sources. If he's not signed within the next few weeks (he probably will be then he can be re-directed to the new team) I'll probably nominate it for deletion.--Yankees10 18:11, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
For a minute, I thought he was. But now, no, I doubt he is. If you PROD it now, I (probably) won't object. I certainly won't unless I find more reliable sources discussing him. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:52, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
I'll probably just leave it for now since there is enough sources to warrant a re-direct if he is signed by another team.--Yankees10 18:58, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Sounds fair. If he's not signed, or signs with an indy ball team, either of us can PROD it. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:08, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 February newsletter

And so ends the most competitive first round we have ever seen, with 38 points required to qualify for round 2. Last year, 19 points secured a place; before that, 11 (2012) or 8 (2011) were enough. This is both a blessing and a curse. While it shows the vigourous good health of the competition, it also means that we have already lost many worthy competitors. Our top three scorers were:

  1. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer whose high-quality scans of rare banknotes represent an unusual, interesting and valuable contribution to Wikipedia. Most of Godot's points this round have come from a large set of pictures used in Treasury Note (1890–91).
  2. Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions), a WikiCup veteran and a finalist last year, Adam is also a featured picture specialist, focusing on the restoration of historical images. This month's promotions have included a carefully restored set of artist William Russell Flint's work.
  3. United States WikiRedactor (submissions), another WikiCup newcomer. WikiRedactor has claimed points for good article reviews and good articles relating to pop music, many of which were awarded bonus points. Articles include Sky Ferreira, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus and "Wrecking Ball" (Miley Cyrus song).

Other competitors of note include:

After such a competitive first round, expect the second round to also be fiercely fought. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2, but please do not update your submission page until March (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.
