Association football headgear
Hi PeeJay, thanks for the changes on my article today. I am new to wikipedia, so any comments you have to better my article would be greatly appreciated.Swanyk (talk) 18:54, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Disrupting discussion
Please, don't disrupt this discussion with personal comments to others. My comment on Grant.Alpaugh's comment was just to clarify the proposal. He didn't understood it. So, your comments has no base, unnecessary and disruptive to the discussion. Please, don't repeat it. --ClaudioMB (talk) 00:28, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- First, that was clearly not a treat. I alerted you that you disrupted the discussion and asked you to stop it. Second, for sure, Grant.Alpaugh didn't understand the proposal. My initial proposal was very clear about few pictures and he mentioned adding pictures of all the top scorers, award winners, and stadia. My comment on Grant.Alpaugh's comments was just to alert him and anyone reading it what was the discussion about. Nothing more than that. So, your comments were totally unappropriated. By the way, as I explained to Grant.Alpaugh, knowing well a language doesn't mean you understand what you are reading. Third, if I want to continue, I'll continue until I have no arguments. Anyone has the right to try hard explain and defend his/her ideas in a discussion. If you don't like it, ignore it, don't disrupt it. For example, I have already let it go your poor arguments in that discussion, I've questioned you once, you keep use them, what I can do, nothing. One more thing, another contributor also asked you to 'keep things civil' on that discussion.--ClaudioMB (talk) 03:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter what you think about another editor. Keep for yourself or talk to him/her in his/her talk page, but don't disrupt the discussion. If you cannot deal with someone that you consider "not sensible", don't go to discussion pages. I really get frustrated with you and your poor arguments, but, hey, even people like you have the right to discuss and I'll not disrupt a discussion because that.
- So, my message is very simple: please, don't disrupt discussions. --ClaudioMB (talk) 20:20, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Top scorers
Hey, I noticed on this edit [1] that you changed the time played of a lot of the players. Most of the times that you put don't match up with UEFA.com's stats. I'm just curious where you got these times from. --Tocino 03:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting. Which one do you reckon is right? The website or the .pdf file? --Tocino 17:17, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Minutes played
Hello! I don't understand why you changed so many minutes played values for top goalscorers on UEFA Champions League 2007-08 with this edit. They don't seem correct, and I changed them back according to UEFA.com. Please explain your edits the next time. ARTYOM 07:09, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Gee, that's weird! Seems like UEFA has different groups of people working on statistics for the website and press releases. But I had noticed that the website wasn't updating the minutes played correctly lately. For example, after Inter-Liverpool second leg in the round of 16, where Ibrahimovich was substituted after playing for 80 minutes, his minute count increased like he had played the whole match... ARTYOM 09:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hello again, sorry for the late reply! The press release seems more accurate to me, especially because I noticed in the releases before and after Inter-Liverpool second leg that Ibrahimovic was correctly credited with 80 minutes. Other than the fact that we will have to change the source of goalscorers information after each matchday, I think we should go by the press release. I'll change it back on the article :) ARTYOM 12:08, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
PAOK Thessaloniki FC
Hi PeeJay2K3
I would to advise you the Official name is PAOK Thessaloniki FC. PAOK is an Acronym = Panthessalonikios Athlitikos Omilos Konstantinoupolis eg: AEK Athens FC. Athlitiki Enosis Konstantinoupolis Athens
You will see the official name mentioned especially during UEFA cup draws.
Regards PFC
Hi PeeJay2K3
You are totally right, the official website indicates otherwise. Unfortunately that's the problem with PAOK Thessaloniki's Administration, it has a long way to go.
I've been a supporter of my beloved club for decades - reseaching & writing articles.
FYI - Thank God for UEFA Competition Draws, They obviously draw the right name out of the hat.
Cheers Matey !!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by PFC (talk • contribs) 01:33, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
I note you have added an image to this article to "identify the match", I am unsure where the confusion arises, what other match does it get confused with if the non-free image is not included? I was under the impression that there was only one match called the "UEFA Champions League Final" in 2007 Fasach Nua (talk) 09:04, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Magic Number/E#
The magic number can involve the influence of ties.
The formula in soccer is THREE TIMES GAMES PLAYED SUBTRACT THE NUMBER OF POINTS WON BY TEAM A SUBTRACT THE NUMBER OF POINTS LOST BY TEAM B EQUALS THE MAGIC NUMBER
In the Magic number article, Points won is equivalent to "Wins" and points lost is equivalent to "Losses". The reason why there is you multiply by three at the beginning of the formula is because 1 win is eaual 3 points.
Lets say Bayern Munich is Team A and Werder Bremen is Team B.
The Formula is 3 X 34 - 60 - 34 = 8
To find out how many points a team has lost, multiply the number of games played by three and subtract the number of points won in the points column in the standings.
- A win = 0 points lost
- A draw = 2 points lost
- A Loss = 3 points lost
If you have any questions on the matter, just ask on my talk page. Kingjeff (talk) 15:17, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
It shows if a paticular team has the ability to win the championship. I could easily create another table to show, not just the championship, but all the European qualification positions and avoiding relegation. Kingjeff (talk) 15:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Bayern Munich
3 x 34 - 53 - 24 = 25
- 3 x 34 = 102 Possible points throughout entire season.
- Werder Bremen has won 53 points to date in the season.
- Bayern Munich has lost 24 points at this very moment.
- If Bayern Munich wins today, the 24 points lost remains 24 points lost and the magic number remains 25.
- If Bayern Munich draws today, the 24 points lost will increase by 2 to 26 points lost and the magic number will decrease from 25 to 23 because a draw means they lost 2 out of a possible 3 points.
- If Bayern Munich loses today, the 24 points lost will increase by 3 to 27 points lost and the magic number will go from 25 to 22 because the lost all 3 points available. Kingjeff (talk) 15:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
MLS
Please don't act unilaterally to circumvent the efforts of numerous editors on the project to develop articles for Major League Soccer. MLS is a unique entity that has one foot in two sporting traditions (North American major sports and International soccer). Ignoring this fact is foolish, as it results in a number of aspects to MLS and its coverage on WP that are unique. MLS names its champion based on a postseason tournament that is unique AFAIK to the US, Mexico, and Australia. Attempts to shoehorn these traditions into the rest of the world's infobox is ungainley and unnecessary. There is nothing wrong with the way the MLS infoboxes are, and you had no consensus to change them. -- Grant.Alpaugh 00:56, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

MUFC Page
I am missing nothing, I am calling out the fact that it's original research and wholly disingenuous to put it and try to make it seem like it's contained in the source. There is no source for the factoid, ergo, we cannot include it. You know that, and you attempted to be sneaky and reinsert it under the guise of updating statistical data. Batman2005 (talk) 20:15, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- I gave you a reasonable answer. Your refusal to accept it doesn't make my answer unreasonable. It's a non-issue now since another user did what you should have done in the first place and found a reputable source....you know, like policy dictates. Batman2005 (talk) 12:02, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
nominating Template:League of Wales seasons (1992-2002) for deletion
Dear PeeJay,
Firstly, I would like to commend you on your work. The information and clean-up you have provided to Wikipedia regarding football statistics and trivia put's me to shame. I am new to all this editing and mainly provide information about Welsh Football leagues, cups and teams. This brings me to my second point, or question if truth be known. I believe you had a little disagreement with my brother who also uses this page, user:onshore. You poor fella, 26 years of sibling disagreement I can understand your frustration... Well he drew my attention to the comment below that you made:
Right, well I still maintain that the two leagues should be grouped together. I will be nominating Template:League of Wales seasons (1992-2002) for deletion. Please don't remove the League of Wales seasons from the Welsh Premier League seasons template again. – PeeJay 20:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I am a little concerned. Are you suggesting the deletion of statistics for the seasons 1992-2002? I have read your comments and side with you. Both the League of Wales and Welsh Premier League are the same thing just a name change and in the navi box it is easier to simply call it by one; makes sence, less confusing for new users. But I believe the information of the league before the name change should also be made available on wikipedia. My aim on this site is to provide all the information available to me on the Welsh Premier League, Welsh Cup etc. The lack of information on these subjects on the internet in shocking, I aim to recto fie this.
I look forward to your reply and any advise or guidance would be greatly recieved.
Yours Faithfully
MadSproute
p.s I believe the navi box in the Welsh Premier League is broken again, do you know how to fix this?
Dear PeeJay,
Thanx for your quick response and clarifying my question. I must have confused myself with what you where saying and panicked. Your right, the navbox is back to normal now, but did have two boxes for the viewable seasons. You seam a lot more clued up on html scripting than me and thought you would know how to fix it.
Sorry to have bothered you and thanx again for answering my question.
Yours
MadSproute
p.s Good luck with the exams this year lol
Statistics
While I think you're right about the freeflowing nature of football not requiring much statistical analysis, something like a magic number is far from a useless figure. It's simply an easy way to illustrate what needs to happen in order for one team to win a title, or qualify for Europe, etc. Also, I think you greatly underestimate the relevance of statistics to sports like baseball and cricket, where such a gigantic pool of data lends itself readily to averages that are quite useful. How would you like it if I said something along the lines of "All Europeans seem to be hopelessly obsessed with superstitions like form and your sports medicine is absolutely laughable." I mean seriously we here in the States literally roll on the ground laughing when people get injured and the "physio" runs out onto the pitch and sprays God knows what on the injury. You guys really don't know what you're doing when it comes to stuff like that, do you? See that wasn't very nice of me. :P Cheers. -- Grant.Alpaugh 17:29, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- They can though. Football is such a free flowing sport that traditional statistical analysis doesn't work well, but the new high tech stuff where they track how far guys move and every little thing is going to revolutionize (if it already hasn't) how the top level of the game is managed. Cricket matches are so long and batsmen get so many balls bowled to them that statistics provide a good idea of what a player is going to do. Obviously they can't predict how any given over will go, but you get an idea that certain guys are good for X ammount of runs and so on. Same thing with baseball. Statistics have been kept on baseball for literally like 150 years and .300 is pretty much the elite level batting average over any meaningful ammount of at bats and has been so since way back in the day, with .400 being like the absolute limit. While this doesn't predict how any given at bat will go. Baseball seasons are so long that you're just trying to get guys that can consistently perform on a good level, and these statistics provide a good benchmark because for the most part the game has remained unchanged for so long. A lot of that holds true for basketball and American football, too.
- I actually think that the two issues (statistics and sports medicine) are related, because Americans like to break everything down into its constituent parts in order to understand each aspect of something so that we can maximize them all to achieve the best results. My experience has been that Western Europeans have a much more fluid attitude towards things, which is why Americans have better sports medicine, conditioning, and pure athletes, whereas Europeans seem to have better pure skill players (at least in football) than we do. Billy Beane who wrote a revolutionary book on baseball statistics called Moneyball is actually working with the San Jose Earthquakes to try to develop a better way to objectively analyze football and football players, like he did with baseball. Quite an interesting theory.
- On the issue of form, my understanding (from watching, reading, and listening to a lot about football for an American) is that it's more than just if a guy is in a slump or not. It seems to be something that is inherently British about your sports culture, where everyone is either the greatest in the world, or absoultely terrible, with almost no room in between. That attitude has led to a lot of instability at all but the Arsenal's and Man United's, but it extends beyond football into Boxing, Cricket, Rugby Union, and a whole lot more. I think it causes you to be delusional about any flaws your teams might have when they are good, or overly critical to a fault when they are not. I dunno. I know this has been long and rambling, but I haven't been to sleep yet tonight and you got me going. Hope that helps. Cheers. -- Grant.Alpaugh 18:04, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- I fixed the link to Billy Beane so that it goes to the right guy. You should really take a look at his article and the article about Moneyball to see what I'm talking about. -- Grant.Alpaugh 18:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Hey just thought you might find this article interesting, as it is written from the English football fan's point of view. Cheers. -- Grant.Alpaugh 14:32, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Ritchie Jones Man Utd
Why do you insist on vandalising Ritchie's page as all the details on there are factual. There is nothing on Wiki to state that his England appearances cannot be listed and other players have these listed on their pages. Also, ritchie has not been offered a contract at Man Utd which by default means he will be able to leave on a free transfer under the FA rules for a player that is under 23 years old. Joshuaharry (talk) 17:02, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
please stop vandalising this page - there is nothing to state that Ritchie's England appearances cannot be shown on wiki. if you are so concerned then i suggest that you amend every footballers record that shows their international youth appearances. this information is for many other people to see not just for your benefit and interest. 82.17.183.68 (talk) 19:13, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I fail to understand why you are so obsessed with deleting information from this page - it appears to be vindictive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.17.183.68 (talk) 19:32, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

FIFA World Cup 2006 Germany Commemorative Coins
Hi there, I think it is very valuable information, that several countries minted high value coins, commemorating these games. If they are not allowed in the "See Also" section, how a bout a new tiny section then? I am not planning to list all the coins since this will be too much, just one sample ... Miguel.mateo (talk) 09:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Just in case you are not following my answer in my page.
- I do think they are, several countries minted different issues, some of them of really high value. The reason I put it in the "See also" is because they are exactly that: a "see also" reading. How about just the comment and no picture? BTW, I believe if I asked in your watch page, this conversation should stay here, but up to you. Just let me know where to continue it. Template Help?
Hey I was wondering if you could help me with something. I need to remove the round titles and the space they leave when you simply delete them, as well as the dreaded seed boxes we dealt with before from the Template:US Open Cup Bracket. I need to be able to grow the bracket as more teams are added to MLS, so this template is perfect except for the changes I mentioned. If you could give it a look I'd be most appreciative. -- Grant.Alpaugh 13:13, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, theoretically it will work as an 8 team bracket if you include all the teams. Right now there needs to be 7 teams in the bracket with a game in the slot for Round 1 teams 3 and 4 because that's how the bracket works out. The problem is that US Soccer keeps changing the qualifying format, so if next year they add another first round game when Seattle Sounders FC enters the league, I would like to keep using the template if that at all works. Anyway, so in addition to removing the top boxes and the seed boxes, if you could make it so that I don't have to have a team in Round 1 team 1 in order to make the template work I would be most appreciative. Hope that didn't confuse the fuck out of you. Thanks again for the help. -- Grant.Alpaugh 14:30, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- If you look at 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Qualifying (where I actually want to use the bracket) you'll see what I'm trying to accomplish. -- Grant.Alpaugh 14:31, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

It simply means in the template {{birth date}} that the date becomes before month. In the Jason Gavin article, since all the dates become date then month, I simply added the df=y addition. Peanut4 (talk) 22:03, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- If people have a specific date style set, then it overrides anything in that template. Adding it simply ensures that otherwise the date style is consistent. You could also add mf=y. Peanut4 (talk) 22:06, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

I am not disputing the validity of the move. Could you just point me in the direction of the discussion or the directive that brought about the move. Many thanks.Londo06 09:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Sponsored name
Could you point me to the section that states that "sponsored names must not be used" (eg, for Magners League, Guinness Premiership etc). Surely naming these Celtic League (rugby union) and English Premiership (rugby union) is against WP:COMMONNAME? Cheers Nouse4aname (talk) 15:14, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Sorry, I hadn't seen the post above this one when I posted earlier. I don't think it is policy, with WP:COMMONNAME the only naming conventions that are really set in stone. I moved Heineken Cup back as it has never been known as anything else (well, except H Cup, but thats just the French), and is probably the only thing people will call it. Magners and Guinness Leagues may as well stay where they are now, and are probably referred to by both sponsored and non-sponsored names. Nouse4aname (talk) 16:55, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I agree. It was actually me that moved Magners League! I saw a comment on the talk page (Talk:Celtic_League_(rugby_union)#Move_to_Magners_League.3F), which was actually a year old, so figured I'd do it. But since the sponsorship will end next season, and 2 years ago it had none, both Magners and Celtic league are probably used equally. As for Guinness premiership, it changes every year (or so it seems), so the sponsored name is maybe used even less than just "premiership". As for Heineken cup, I think they have got themselves a nice little deal there, and are unlikely to let go, and I doubt anyone would know of it by any other name. Nouse4aname (talk) 17:07, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think it would be best to see if there is an official policy out there, I know the leagues as the Magners League and the Guinness Premiership, and the Heineken Cup is set to that currently. Something worth bringing up in the community I reckon.Londo06 17:09, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- I can see it from both sides, and would side with the current standings with the confirmation that this is the done thing. Basically just after a page that states "sponsor names should not be included in article page titles" or something to the effect.Londo06 17:25, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi there!
I disagree with moving Hungarian National Championship I and Hungarian National Championship II from Nemzeti Bajnokság I and Nemzeti Bajnokság II. Just as we don't translate Újpest FC to Newpest, or Castelnuovo to Newcastle...
I think, both should remain in Hungarian, since this is the official name of the Championship, it can't be translated.
Some examples for the lack of translation:
- Ligue 1 - and not League 1
- La Liga - and not The League
- Allsvenskan - and not... I don't know what
- Macedonian Prva Liga - and not Macedonian First League
- Fußball-Bundesliga - and not Football-Federalleague
- Ekstraklasa - and not Firstdivision
In Hungary everyone knows the league by its official name: Nemzeti Bajnokság I (or NB I).
So if you don't have any concerns, I will remove the pages. --gabute (talk) 16:05, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

About Derby County 2007-08...
It has been confirmed that the Rams will have the worst all-time records in the Premiership with their "performance" all season long, and the edits that were made are NOT anti-whatever. Should they go on a rampage and score seven goals this Sunday (5/11) against Reading, that lowest goal scoring record will be avioded, but given their offence, it would be a miracle. PJ, I am curious, are you going for the world record for reverts within a 24 hour period? I will be nice and give you enough time to self-revert, rather than making an instant 3RR report - however if there is no self-revert then I will make the report.
1. That is revert number seven?? or was it six? either way, it is certainly over 3. 2. My edit was grammatically correct, it is a British English collective noun.
either way, it might be a good idea to self-revert, save me the trouble of making a 3RR report, save you the trouble of getting blocked. Sennen goroshi (talk) 18:43, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution.
I think it would be polite of me to inform you that I have made a 3RR report, concerning your conduct on the Man Utd article.

Discretionary Plurals
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_plural#Discretionary_plurals
A number of words like army, company, crowd, fleet, government, majority, mess, number, pack, and party may refer either to a single entity or the members of the set that compose it. Thus, as H. W. Fowler describes, in British English they are "treated as singular or plural at discretion"; Fowler notes that occasionally a "delicate distinction" is made possible by discretionary plurals: "The Cabinet is divided is better, because in the order of thought a whole must precede division; and The Cabinet are agreed is better, because it takes two or more to agree."[12] Also in British English, names of towns and countries take plural verbs when they refer to sports teams but singular verbs when they refer to the actual place: England are playing Germany tonight refers to a football game, but England is the most populous country of the United Kingdom refers to the country. In North American English, such words are invariably treated as singular.Sennen goroshi (talk) 19:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

No way. There is absolutely no reason not to include overall championships. What's next? Liverpool only won 4 European Cups? Just because of rebranding you can't ignore the fact that the Premiership and the old First Division are not the same competition in all but name. I think you're missing the trees for the forrest, mate. -- Grant.Alpaugh 21:17, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- The article is about two things that happen to be the same thing. It is an article about the Premier League season 2007-08, but it is also about the 2007-08 season in the top flight of English football. As that is the case, ignoring something like overall titles should be avoided. -- Grant.Alpaugh 18:06, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- There's no reason it can't go in both places. There's nothing wrong with including it in the infobox, nothing, whatsoever. -- Grant.Alpaugh 18:24, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Zenit
It's really not a big deal. I figured that that since the article has the name Zenit St. Peterburg printed so much that at one occasion it should have the official name spelled out and on the infobox for the game seems like a good place to have it. You can change it back if you like. --Tocino 17:42, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I know you have explicitly stated that you'd like to get more feedback from opposes on your RfA but I truly feel that all just concerns have been raised. In my opinion, I think the best thing you can do right now is to withdraw your RfA and go on editor review if you want more feedback.
- Seems like a good reason to change it back. --Tocino 17:46, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Regarding your RFA
I know you have explicitly stated that you'd like to get more feedback from opposes on your RfA but I truly feel that all just concerns have been raised. In my opinion, I think the best thing you can do right now is to withdraw your RfA and go on editor review if you want more feedback. This is just my opinion, you're fully welcome to keep the RfA open for a while longer if you so require. Thanks. Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk? 19:11, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey
Don't let the failure of your RfA let you down. We've all failed before. Just keep on posting, keep your nose clean and return in a month or so. I've seen some of your contribs and believe you have it in you. Next time you go for an RfA, you'll have my vote. Regards ——Ryan | t • c 08:13, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ryan is right, let me give you an example. Did you remember Deryck Chan? He is an administrator who opposed your RfA this time. He failed his first RfA, but he promised trying to serve the community as hard as he can in the future. Between his two RfA, he did plenty of edits and contributions to the community, and made a success in his second RfA. So don't let yourself down, you'll success when you do better. Wembley/5 star
The confusion probably comes from the fact that both the Wembley page and the page that lists the UEFA-rated stadia both list Wembley as 5-star, without any sources to prove or disprove the claim (in fact the UEFA-rated page is a mess full stop). Darkson (BOOM! An interception!) 14:26, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Wembley is 5 star. Have a look at the the discussion page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:UEFA5Star. Wembley was inspected in march and it is now may and it is still hoping to host the champ league final. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.157.251.230 (talk) 10:44, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

- How is that list reliable? That list is clearly wrong, Old Trafford has never had a 67,400 capacity, and don't say they have increased from that, you can check they have never had this capacity. Even if they did it shows how this list is out of date. Also this list could have been made by any mug and just posted onto footmad.net where did they get this from? I don't think this is very reliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.157.251.230 (talk) 10:51, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed by the community? And that makes it official? Even though it is clearly wrong? Can i see the discussions that took place when deciding whether the list was official or not? And just because it is the only thing to go on it does not mean you should use it, especially as it is incorrect. And Wembley Stadium is a five star stadium because it is still applying to host the champions league final. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.157.251.230 (talk) 10:58, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Logos in user boxes
Hi, i'm pretty new to wiki so i don't want to sound angry in anyway here as you probably did it for a good reason of which i've been stupidly ignorant of but was wondering why you removed the team emblems i used in my user boxes. I'm sure there's probably some sort of permission needed but where do i find out the rules? Can i take pictures of the emblems off the team shirts i have at home and upload them as my own image and then use them? RudolfSchmidt (talk) 16:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

well considering they are set to host the uefa champions league 2011 final that proves it is five star, look at the discussion pages it was agreed by the community that in march inspections would take place and if it passed it would still be a candidate, it is therefore it passed the inspection. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.157.251.230 (talk) 20:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
also please explain how the supposedly "official" list compiled by UEFA but found on footymad.net and uploaded by an anybody is correct even though it states old trafford as having a 67,400 capacity even though not once has old trafford been able to sit this amount? take a look at the history http://manunited.free.bg/oldtrafford.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.157.251.230 (talk) 21:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Manchester United FC Doubles and The Treble
Pejay. I think that this section should appear at some point in the article as the dates and seasons are significant in our history. I would be happy for contributors so apply reasonable editing to format and layout (that's the nature of Wikipedia) but think an outright delete should be reserved for incorrect, irrelevant or objectionable material. (Statto999 (talk) 01:18, 23 May 2008 (UTC))
Fair enough!! I do have the tendency to over reference. The definitions are available under The Double and the The Treble and so probably don't need including in the article themselves (Statto999 (talk) 01:27, 23 May 2008 (UTC))
Snowing in Montevideo
Hi there. I've noticed you've reverted my phrase rejecting Laurent's statement in 1930 FIFA World Cup about snowing in Montevideo when he scored against Mexico. I know it's just a quote and so I don't pretend that Laurent didn't say that, but his memories are fuzzy, and so the decclaration may mislead the readers. I believe this fact should be pointed out somehow, though I'm not sure exactly how. Maybe something that just states that Laurent's memories are wrong. Please let me know what you think. I know your not a big fan of speculation but there have been edits about fergie leaving the club (you may be aware). I have reworded one guys two line effort and I wondered what you thought to do next.
I have gathered three sources (the mail on sunday was the interview with the three years in) listed in the above link and wondered what you though as there has been some reverting deleting and didnt fancy a prolonged edit war between us or anyone else for that matter. PheonixRMB (talk) 22:12, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
We had those sources, I'm editing these stuff from ages. I'm not saying your idea is stupid, just I'm against this change. Discuss it first, at least, since we have always done things in an other way. My opinion is that this stuff is useless, 'cause it don't affect the tournament in any way. Virtually, an head coach can preselect players two years before, and can preselect 100 players if he wants (Domenech preselected something like 50 players). Are called provisional squads 'cause they aren't Euro08 squads. If tomorrow Cassano got injured and Inzaghi replaces him, well this affect Euro08 squads and the tournament itself, and therefore should be mentioned. --necronudist (talk) 14:52, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely not. You changed a de facto standard and you must argue for the change. --necronudist (talk) 14:55, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely not again. As I told you those infos have been added also in the past. But when the deadline pass, first step starts from the final squads. I think we should discuss on WP:FOOTBALL. --necronudist (talk) 15:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Jodie and Sam!
Well I got I wanted (and I did vote sad to say). I read earlier in the week that voting for Jodie was way above the others, and as "The Lord" said, Jodie is "The Peoples Nancy"! And of course the IDA article and the girls articles have had some "interesting" edits! Now I just need Blackpool to stay in The Championship next season and not get relegated....♦Tangerines♦·Talk 21:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Leeds United A.F.C. club records
I have to question you moving Leeds United A.F.C. club records to Leeds United A.F.C. records. Both Leeds United and you're favourite club list these type of records either under "Club Records" (on the Leeds Site) or "Club Statistics" (on you're favourite clubs site). Lists such as Record appearances are club records in that they are records of the most times any player has appeared for the club. Could you please explain your moving this page, and if possible get the move reverted along with the pages history?

Flags and Wolves
Hi Peejay, With the greatest of respect it is not me that is being unconstructive. I have spent some time improving the Darron Gibson article while you have just come along and made minor adjustments that add nothing. All I am interested in doing is making better articles but it is this sort of pedantic enforcement of MoS that ruins Wiki.
- Regarding flags. First of all I am not a big fan of using flags willy nilly but I think that in this, and similar cases, it is justified. It helps distinguish between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. You may know the difference between the two but not everybody else does. I only wish I had a pound for every time I saw a Wiki article were an Irish player was linked to the wrong national team.. It is not just a problem with Wiki. This Man Utd site incorrectly refers to Gibson as an Northern Ireland U21 international. In addition I cannot find any particular guideline against using flags here.
- Regarding Wolves. The clubs own website is called www.wolves.premiumtv.co.uk and it displays the word Wolves prominently. So if the club use the name why can’t it be used in Wiki. Even the Wiki article on the club states that the club is well known by this name. Djln --Djln (talk) 17:11, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- All I was doing was trying to get other opinions on the topic. Hardly canvassing ! Doing this can help prevent petty edit wars. I have tried to add another ref and mention that he captained both RoI under-19 and under-21 squads but your edits keep removing these. Are you fully aware of the controversary that Gibson was involved in. I feel use of the flags can help clarify his career. Do we really have to follow MoS so rigidly. Is there no room for manoeuvre ? Djln--Djln (talk) 17:59, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Euro 2008
Hey there. I saw that you made some edits on the article and realised that you changed the way the match results were displayed. I had made them look like this, in order to provide a match report for each game and the way it looked before readers could see the goal scorers of each match Why did you change it? Cheers Sergiogr (talk) 07:51, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

It might be best to go after photos etc and make them lighter, I noticed at least that Romanias shirts seem much lighter than the ones on UEFA.com ← chandler 16:58, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have no idea if you mean Image:GER-POL 2008-06-08.svg, seems to be some sort of problem when it's made into a PNG as the plain SVG looks fine for me. Might have something to do with this Wikipedia:SVG Help#Rendering files ← chandler 17:12, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Haven't found anything wrong in the lineups, one thing though both the NED and ITA shirts look much darker than the real ones? ← chandler 19:49, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Utd stats in wrong place ?
Hi Peejay, while researching Darron Gibson, I found this set of stats which seem to be about Man United and not Benfica. Is this a mistake ? I suspect it may be an error or possible vandalism. They also seem to be missing from the equivalent Utd article. Djln--Djln (talk) 18:36, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- But do they belong to the Benfica article. If not. Should we remove them from there. Djln--Djln (talk) 20:26, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

UEFA Euro 2008 venues table
Weird? I think it is far softer on the eye the way I formatted it. Unnecessary lines are a high crime against good taste typically committed by people who shouldn't dabble in layout. dorftrottel (talk) 09:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm. Since you're a regular edit warrior and have no taste, there's no use teaching or challenging you. Thanks for nothing, anyway. dorftrottel (talk) 09:06, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I've centered the table again, hope you don't mind but it looks really awkward sitting on the left. As far as the dividing lines are concerned, I've tried virtually all permutations and came up with this compromise, omitting all the vertical lines, and the horizontals above the images. I actually like this better than my other variant. Imho it strikes a balance between at-a-glance usability (esp. the info-triplet 'city-stadium-capacity') and overall attractiveness because of the fewer lines. Not going to unilaterally instate it though. I was too lazy to write an introduction for as yet uninvolved users at the article talk, but you're welcome to move my version there in case you still don't agree but think others should see it. dorftrottel (talk) 10:55, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Please be careful
PeeJay, please be careful over breaching 3RR - you appear to have made five or six reverts inside an hour to Premier League 2008-09, and I can't see that the edits made from 81.146.14.167 are vandalism - they merely reflect a different view as to whether managerial changes made in the close season belong to the season before or the season after. As it happens, I tend to agree with you and that changes before 1 July belong with last season, but dogmatically reverting each time, especially considering you have had a block for 3RR quite recently, may not be the best way to deal with this. Your general standards of edits are way too high for the project to lose you on an extended block. - fchd (talk) 20:53, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hakan Yakın
Dear PeeJay2K3,
I can understand your reason for replacing the authentic letters of the names due to their social situation, location, personal preferences, as well. However, i can not be agree with you in this case, otherwise we need to remove all the authentic letters from all the surnames. For instance: All persons whose origin of Eastern Europe (specially of Balkans and Turkey), Asia and South America... List is pretty long, you can check'em out in related articles. I wanna give you some examples:
- Eldin Jakupović (Sui) [He is even at same selection with Yakın)
- Zlatan Ibrahimović (Swe) [A big shot]
- Kevin Kurányi (Ger)
- Mario Gómez (Ger)
- Serdar Taşçı (Ger)
In my money, there is no use to do that, to change the letters. The authentic ones are also a part of their cultural and historical heritage. And there is an enormous fact that we only discuss on sports, so imagine of all the habitants immigrated...

Hey there. I blocked that IP address for a day or so for persistent addition of unexplained material. However, the additions were certainly not blatant vandalism, as you repeatedly warned them for. Please be careful to not violate WP:3RR; you really need to have more explanation as to why these additions are vandalism. Addition of material you don't agree with is NOT vandalism. Ok I appreciate that it could be confusing, but all somebody has to do is looks at the matches and see who scored. It's not exactly hard is it? I want to (belatedly) thank you for explaining the 3rd-match rules during the Africa Cup of Nations, detailing the possible outcomes. I had always been frustrated with not being able to watch both of the last matches in a group round live, and didn't understand why they have to be played simultaneously. Now I do understand; and am following Euro 2008 closely, thanks for the updates there (you and others) too. Robert Ullmann (talk) 17:21, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Request
I want someone to make a TOC(Tables of content) template for wikipedia like this[4]. If you know how to make, then please put on your effort as it will be good for wikipedia and its users. *The image is an edited one*. I didn't find any template that would break or split the contents into half and put the other half on right side[5]. This template will utilize the blank space and will make the contents table easily accessible without scrolling down. THANKS. Harryroger (talk) 12:17, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't think your edit is a good edit. Try referring to UEFA Euro 2004 and 2006 FIFA World Cup, they included scorers' information, attendance and referee. Those information are acceptable in the main article. Raymond "Giggs" Ko 09:26, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

The formation is actually different than how you show in the image. The back four are correct but the midfield and forwards are different. The formation was the same as Portugals. Rolfes took up right centre mid and Hitzlsperger left centre mid. Ballack played attacking mid just Behind Klose, while Podolski and Shweinsteiger played Left and Right Wing respectively. RE:Vandalism to your Userpage
I can understand why this editor vandalised your userpage, you swore at them on the talkpage of their adress. I'm not going to bother Templating you, because I'm sure at heart your a good editor, but you should bear in mind WP:Assume Good Faith, although just because he keeps adding something does not mean you should swear at them its not the right thing to do. thanks. - While I have sympathy for this anon IP vandal repeatedly attacking your user page (I've even reverted one of the attacks), I feel he/she has a point on adding the info to the Ritchie Jones article - the fact that he is available for transfer is at least as relevant as some of the other information in the article - the fact that his contract will end at the end of June for instance. Adding the fact is certainly not vandalism, and numerous reverts could lead you to getting a block, which the project could do without! - fchd (talk) 10:02, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry to butt in here, but I'll had my 2p worth. I first spotted this edit war at the WP:FOOTY page watchlist. My main concerns about the edits are that first he is the player's agent and so he clearly has COI. Secondly, the article already states his contract expires in June, a free transfer is therefore a redundant fact. Peanut4 (talk) 10:17, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Glen Little's deal with Pompy/Julius Aghahowa's Wigan exit
Hey PJ, Little signed a one year contract extention with Reading which would keep him with the club until the 07/08 season, so his contract would've expired on June 2008 so he was free. The FA Premier League as it is the name that they officially are known as according to their own website - Terms and Conditions - also I didn't start this discussion as an anti-English campaign, just one about keeping all "Top level football leagues of Europe" divisions uing the same (or similar) naming convention!!

stuff
perhaps this would be better on IM or E-mail, but I am lazy so here goes.
I imagine you have read what I said about you reverting someones talk page, and you are aware of my feelings about that, shit like that is going to bite you in the arse, when you try to be an admin next time. I am not saying this to have a go, this is honest advice. I have no ambition/hope of ever being an admin, I am far too antagonistic for that - you however seem to take wikipedia quite seriously, and little things like that are the only barriers in your way.
I can understand you getting pissed off if someone removes your comments - been there, done that, but after reverting on his talk page, and having him moan at you, you really should have backed down. When I have the feeling that someone will revert my comments, I make sure they are on an article talk page, not a user talk page, that way no-one can touch them.
Don't consider this me trying to give you crap, this is advice. You might be a good admin one day, if you calmed down a touch (which is why I could never be an admin) Sennen goroshi (talk) 13:32, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Hereford United/Manchester United friendly 2001-02
Just to let you know that I've restored this fixture to Manchester United F.C. season 2001-02, and added a footnote with references under the list. Qualifying Goals
Look at every Champions League or UEFA Cup article from the last few years and you will see that people have tried to add qualifying goals to the top scorers section until people point out that the goals were not scored in the competition proper. If you think that this should be changed, start by adding all of the World Cup Qualifying goals to the World Cup articles. They're as much a part of the competition as UEFA Cup qualifying goals are. -- Grant.Alpaugh 16:01, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry if I seemed harsh or overbearing. I certainly didn't mean it, my comments were in good faith and cordial spirits, I assure you; I certainly didn't mean to "lawyer" you. My reply was simply what I thought on the matter - it just didn't seem OR to me, though I guess I do have something of a tendency to use a hefty argument in defence of my points of view, but that's merely because I struggle to word my ideas concisely. Anyway, I'm babbling...to cut it short, I apologise if I came over as aggressive or whatnot; I didn't mean it to. I hope I didn't come over badly, that's not what I was trying to do. Re: Cardiff
My point was more that many Welsh editors - I've known some pretty strong Welsh nationalists, though I have to admit I don't know your views - would never let Cardiff have an English flag in that article. They would wage a revert war all season and into the next if people kept changing it back. But yes, you're right, there is a distinction and technically Cardiff would qualify for the English flag. But it didn't happen, so it's a moot point :) Falastur2 (talk) 18:06, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

However, could you please tone down your sarcastic, know-it-all tone that grates with many of the contributors I'm sure. You spend a lot of time policing the Manchester United articles, I have noticed. Credit to you on this. However, Could you please stop yourself from making comments such as the one on the academy page: "(cur) (last) 16:56, 25 July 2008 PeeJay2K3 (Talk | contribs) (19,718 bytes) (Undid revision 227853634 by 83.108.31.221 (talk) a Norwegian kid called Joshua King?) Perhaps it was not a valid edit; you seem to go by the agonisingly inaccurate squad page at manutd.com, if I'm right, to update the squads. Some of us closer to the club have better knowledge thereof, and therefore more accurate data could be added to the page. The only hurdle is sourcing. Anyway, rant over. Squad numbers
Got a ref for that? I agree with #99 removal, but nothing like that is mentioned on Fabio's page. I "know" you're probably correct, but as Wikipedians are so happy to say, it's not what you know, it's what you can prove. Darkson (BOOM! An interception!) 15:25, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Euro 2008
PeeJay,
I really disagree, they are official coins, minted by Austria (one of the hosts of the games) with the official names of the final stadiums on it, just to celebrate these games. This is verifiable and relevant, don't you think it should be mentioned somewhere. What is the relevance that there were broadcasting problems for example then? Can we discuss about it? Just a paragraph in the see also section does not hurt the article. If you are against the paragraph then let's just show the coins.
Let me end that I do respect your opinion about this and other articles, since I do see you keep them tight and consice. I just think this information should be part of it, nothing else. I will not look for consensus, If I do not manage to convince you, then no coins information on the article.

Football League 2008-09
Hi Peejay, Thanks for editing my results table for the Championship in the Football League 2008-09 article. Do you know how to put in the abbreviations for teams in League One and League Two as the tables have full team names and is rather stretched. Thanks. 03md (talk) 14:18, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I have declined the prod on Aldershot Town 1992-93. I agree that clubs that have always been non-league should not have season articles but the position (AFAIK and correct me if I'm wrong) has not been determined on clubs that have had both league and non-league seasons. Also, this club has 3 season pages including a detailed one, Aldershot Town F.C. season 2007-08 as a non-league side. Both of these non-league seasons should be taken together at AfD, if you deem appropriate, not as a prod to establish a consensus either way. Since some clubs now yo-yo between league and non-league it seems odd to blow holes in their record by deleting just their non-league seasons. Having said that, this is just my view and others might think differently ... TerriersFan (talk) 22:29, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

ok I understand. I won't touch your soccer pages any more. Theres also lists of channels that show American sports (NFL, Major league Baseball, NBA, NHL) for each team. I dont see the problem with a soccer one too. maybe you could sort them by team.

Just a heads up that after a VERY long wikibreak I'm now back and on the taskforce. I'm mainly interested in working on player articles. All Black test in NZ

These are the pages you can get rid of.
- List of All Black Tests at AMI Stadium
- List of All Black Tests at Athletic Park
- List of All Black Tests at Carisbrook
- List of All Black Tests at Eden Park
- List of All Black Tests at Westpac Stadium
- List of All Black Tests outside the Main 4 test venues

- We're agreed that a list of home tests for NZ (or a list of just home matches for anyone at anything!) doesn't make any sense. I think though that its worth retaining the AB Tests in NZ article but moving it to become a list of all NZ tests - a fair amount of work has been done which would be the basis of the move and it'd be a shame to lose all that. Soccer questions
Hey i was watching Olympic soccer and I have some questions. Since you seem to be a soccer expert i thought of you. I noticed some of the players were wearing totally different uniforms than the rest of the players. one team had on yellow and blue and the other had white on white but for some reason one of the players had red and blue and one had gray and black. and one had green and black. i thought uniform meant "one form". how do we know which team the players with alternate uniforms are on?
So what team are the players in red on? are they the referees? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomcat4680 (talk • contribs)
- Sorry for jumping in on someone else's talk page. From the context given I'm guessing you're watching the Women's final between Brazil and the United States. Brazil are in Yellow/Blue and the USA in White, the Brazilian goalkeeper is wearing grey/black and the american goalkeeper is wearing green/black with the referee's in red/black. The reasoning and history for all of this is detailed in kit (association football). Basically, the outfield players have to wear a similar coloured kit but the goalkeepers have to wear a different colour to identify that they are the only ones allowed to use their hands. Nanonic (talk) 15:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't make sense to me still.
Why did they continue overtime if USA untied it?
Medalist table
I reverted your changes, but would like to continue the discussion. In my opinion, the images are "lost" against the boldly coloured backgrounds, so I think it should have the bgcolor, or the images, but not both. So which of these looks better:

If it's utter rubish, you should remove many honours of the Manchester players. For example: Paul Scholes didn´t play in the match of the 2007 Community Shield. So that honour shouldn't be there. Re: Berbatov
Like it or not, it's reported in a newspaper that clearly meets WP:RS. Learn the rules in wiki before removing valid edits. If you bothered to look at the link, Berby and Fergie are - gasp - holding a United shirt. On the back is probably the number. Even so, it's not for you to question how a reliable source knows, the fact remains it's reported by a reliable source. If it turns out to be wrong, then change it. Minkythecat (talk) 07:47, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Try looking up Berbatov on www.soccerbase.com as well. Like it or not, two sources which pass WP:RS indicate his number is 9; now, it may well be the Telegraph used "no 9" as a generic number for centre forward, but you've zero rationale to remove the information which IS sourced as per wiki guidelines. If you further revert, you're breaking the 3RR limit. Please acquaint yourself with wiki rules. Minkythecat (talk) 08:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:FC Internazionale logo.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. WP:MUFC and Bobby Charlton
After today I doubt I'll be on wikipedia for about a week, but I'll head back to Bobby Charlton to fix the things I've tagged then. They were more reminders for myself than anything else. With more sources and a good copy-edit of the England section I see no reason why we can't take this to FA.
Also, do you reckon it'd be worthwhile having a showcase section like they do at WP:FOOTY? Wouldn't be worth separating the articles, but perhaps it would be worth having one table with all the good content? Edit this section to see the proposed table. I was going to be bold and do it, but guessed there may have been a reason for not doing it before. Do you reckon it's worth it? I think it might give the project a little bit of a lift, especially if we get Bobby Charlton promoted. BeL1EveR (talk) 20:30, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I've got it as well. Not a bad read, although you could only justify using it for his early life and perhaps Munich, because the expectation would be that for his actual career there will be plenty of third party sources. To be honest there's not *too much* work to do. It's just a case of finding and inserting a good number of sources, rewording some POV language (or insert the language in quotation marks and add sources for every quotation) and we're almost there. My way of looking at it is if we start to get collaborations to GA or FA, and send out messages saying "well done to our participants on getting xxx to GA", that would in turn generate more involvement. You were correct that I had no right to assume things concerning Beckham's future, nor did I have the right to include any POV in the article. You were also right by giving me that 3RR warning. Again, I apologize for my behavior. There was no excuse for it. Caden S (talk) 12:22, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi PJ2K3, I added the catergory "Reading FC footballers" to George Best's page because he played for Reading in four pre-season appearances. I'm perfectly aware that those appearances probably don't count, but it's well known in the Reading area that Best played for Reading briefly, and he's mentioned on the Reading wiki page. I believe he therefore qualifies to a certain extent for this catergory. Thanks, SCIAG (talk) 19:19, 9 September 2008 (UTC). He didn't have a contract, and I'd struggle to prove it if he did. Oh, and "gossip and heresay" doesn't really do it justice. The main reason I added the cat was that it looked messy, having him in the Reading article but not the cat. Anyhow, I can put up with it. SCIAG (talk) 19:28, 9 September 2008 (UTC) PJ, there was no need to add a "cit needed" tag to Readin'g notable former players section. The only reference you're likely to find is Hob Nob Anyone?, and that'll just be people who remember Best playing for us in pre-season- no more reliable than me assuring you he did.SCIAG (talk) 20:39, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
FA Cup reverts (incorrect use of Main template)
Thanks for the reverts. I did one and had intended to do the rest but got sidetracked. I left a comment at Template talk:Main as I feel the wording is too ambiguous. Although you and I know the correct usage, I can see why many people make the mistake - it isn't illogical to think of the parent topic as the 'main' article. --Jameboy (talk) 16:12, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
List of Wales international rugby union players
I've just put up another Welsh player, and noticed he linked straight to your new page linking all Welsh internationals. It looks great, but just a word of warning on the birth dates; if you are using the WRU page or Scrum.com, which seem to feed off each other, are incorrect for many of the early players. If the WRU site didn't have an exact date of birth, they put them down as 1st July. I think there be another dodgy date in there too. If you have a large list, then Excel would be a handy may of picking them out. Cheers. FruitMonkey (talk) 17:43, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Yorkshire County ECB Premier League
I still don't think an A1 speedy was applicable as this applies (to quote WP:CSD) to "Very short articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article." The subject of the article was clearly identifable and most of the points you made in your post on my talk page are contents issues rather than context issues. Specifically:
- There are no wikilinks in the article and it is not linked to by any other articles. Finally, it has no references so none of the info in there can be verified! All context issues and none of which are reasons to speedy delete an article. Indeed the lack of wikilinks is not a reason to delete a page full stop and a lack of inward links isn't really a reason to delete a page either although it could be helpful in establishing a lack of notability. Lack of references is a reason to prod or AfD an article but not to speedy delete it.
- The article does not explain what the Yorkshire County ECB Premier League is, and the fact that it was erroneously categorised as being an association football competition didn't do much to help either. The article does not explain that the league is a cricket league, only that it is "one of the best league [sic] in the country". Again these are all content issues so A1 does not apply. Given the obvious content issues I would have accepted an A3 speedy tag although in my personal opinion I would have thought a valid stub could quite possibly have been made of the article and so don't think it should have been speedied.

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

Manchester United graph
Hi PeeJay2K3, I did think about including Newton Heath in Manchester United's graph but I wasn't sure if they were simply re-named or actually re-formed and re-elected to the league; so I thought it would be best to make a separate chart for them. What do you think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Payo (talk • contribs) 10:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- What would be best - start the solid red line from 1893, make a green and gold dotted line for 1893-1902, or make a red dotted line from 1893-1902?--Payo (talk) 12:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Like this?
- What would be best - start the solid red line from 1893, make a green and gold dotted line for 1893-1902, or make a red dotted line from 1893-1902?--Payo (talk) 12:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, PeeJay I am not sure if that is quite right... let me check something... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Payo (talk • contribs) 13:15, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Is this correct?
- The nodes on the graph show the club's final position in the year the league finished so if Newton Heath changed their name after the end of the 1902 season then it is best to draw the red line from then to the first Manchester United node. I'll revise the graph to reflect this. --Payo (talk) 13:34, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

- Hmm, since the term 'provincial rugby' is only used n the southern hemisphere and 'state rugby' in the USA perhaps we need a template that includes 'regional rugby' to accomodate the Celtic nations. 'Provincial' doesn't seem to be quite right in this context. ♦ Jongleur100 ♦ talk 16:49, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

- Well I had to tell you especially in the light of your own comment about people's urge to update as soon as they can. It is of course legitimate to revert an addition without source, saying so. If you revert a second time, I'd still repeat the reason or rephrase it in the edit summary. Beyond that it is also important to consider if the statement is actually disputed or controversial, whether it is likely that it can be sourced in which case a {{fact}} tag can help to settle things for a moment. Finally, I'd recommend to sue edit summaries where possible and mark bad edits clearly in the edit summary in some form. --Tikiwont (talk) 13:23, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

United players
Hi, PeeJay! I noticed on your List of Manchester United players that there are a few players who have played 50 or more matches without articles. I wanted to start a stub article on them, but was looking for information on their whole career. Do you know of a website that has all the information for a particular player, like the clubs he played for, birth date, birth place, etc? I know there's Soccerbase.com, but that seems to mostly be for current players. For United players there's MUFCInfo.com, but it only deals with the player's United career. Are there any other websites out there that would have complete information for these players? Thanks! Patken4 (talk) 21:06, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- My next mini-project is to do all the United players with 10 or more goals with the club. There's only eight without an article. If you want to start on the list of the 25-49 appearances, that would great! Maybe on day we'll finally have an article on all the players! Would there be anyone else at the MUFC task force that would be interested in helping to start a stub on everyone? Patken4 (talk) 00:33, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't have that much for a player who made 200+ appearances (the same is true of a lot of players from the 20s and 30s), but I've put in some small bits and pieces. My sources contradict the article in a couple of places: Canada is stated as the planned destination for emigration, and my sources indicate that United offered £150 for his services, not that City asked for £150. He isn't mentioned prominently in passages about either cup final, but I might be able to find out more about that - though I've worked on the articles for some of City's cup finals, I haven't done 1933 or 1934 yet. RE: Ryan Giggs
You're probably right about John O'Shea, although his page does say he's been at United from 1998 so might have a medal. I remember reading that the winners get 30 medals, so Scholes and Neville would almost 100% def have winners medals for both years. Not sure how'd you'd find out for sure who the 30 medalists were in each year, but think it would be fair to say it would've included Scholes in 99 and Nevile in 08.Derry Boi (talk) 00:19, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

It's amazing how often people waste their time doing things like that. I'm a Liverpool fan myself so I'm the first person in line to insult Man Utd, but it's just ridiculous. BTW – If it interests you, and you've got the time, maybe you could put a little work in to the Rio Ferdinand article? Sentences like this aren't doing the Rio man any favours:
- "Ferdinand's early Man Utd form was very poor, which culminated in his horror show against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Ferdinand is often criticised for his tendency to make crucial errors and have lapses in concentration. Most notably, Franco Baresi labelled him as a poser."
Sure, he was a slow starter but "horror show poser" is not a good nickname to have! Also, the career subheadings for the clubs aren't displayed in the contents page. How weird is that? Sillyfolkboy (talk) 20:08, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Colour with Rugby navbox templates
I have added a vote at the rugby union community here on the subject that I believe that is at the very heart of the matter. I support one uniform coding for all clubs out there, however for me they should have their club colours, and not in purple. The RWC template does not allow the use of colours to the best of my knowledge. In short I believe that people either want coloured navboxes or do not, that is the crux of the issue here and the one that should be voted on. Many thanks.Londo06 07:28, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Coins
PeeJay,
As I said in the past, I am doing "my type of edits" for a lot of countries, lot of coins, lot of different topics ... I might step on top of one of "your articles" again in the future, just understand that it is definitely not intentional. My procedure is simple: I add information about a coin in Wikipedia, I check for article(s) that could also reference that coin, if it does not have a refence then I add it. Some editors do love my references, some do not; so there is no right or wrong here. If I add anything in the future again, please feel free to revert.
Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 15:08, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

I know what the guidance WP:BOLDTITLE says. The problem is that, without a bold title in the lead paragraph, the article looks odd, unfinished and scrappy. You may not agree, but 99% at least of articles have that bold title. In my view, the best solution (contrary to guidance) is to have the words closest to the title emboldened, as in my original draft. The second best version is my last draft, to revise the paragraph so that it contains the actual words of the title, emboldened, and in my view reads almost as well as the original. Your version, reverting to the original wording but with no words emboldened, in my view reads fine but just looks bad. Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:24, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Cristiano Ronaldo
Hi, can I ask why you removed the Football Talent Spotter link from Ronaldo's external links section? I feel, as a true football fan, that this information is extremely interesting to fans of the player and his club. Would you reconsider reinstating the link as I really do think the content supplied is extremely useful and will benefit a number of football fans. Football Nut —Preceding undated comment was added at 13:12, 28 November 2008 (UTC).
Thanks for getting back to me and I appreciate your comments, however I find the website extremely useful when writing articles on statistics in football. I also like the user interaction so you are in charge of what you think of the player. Other than that you have a clear indication of how the player is performing in the current season with the following tab - http://footballtalentspotter.com/player/cristianoronaldo-728.aspx?xTab=OptaStats - which shows that Ronaldo has scored 8 goals with 32 shots, giving him a 1 in 4 goals-per-shot ratio. As a 'Football Nut' I find this statistical information fascinating and believe many others like me will. The webpage clearly offers more information about the player in terms of football and pure football. Unless most fans are interested in seeing what kind of gel Ronaldo uses in his hair at IMDB. Football Nut —Preceding undated comment was added at 13:46, 28 November 2008 (UTC).
PeeJay - Have you had any thoughts on reinstating the Football Talent Spotter link for Cristiano Ronaldo? I hope that you agree with my argument that the statistics provided and interactive community will be beneficial to readers of the article.Football Nut
PeeJay - Is there a place we can discuss this in more depth? I disagree with your statement and feel, as a contributor to the Wikipedia community, that the link is useful for football fans in general - not just Ronaldo fans. How does the IMDB link offer more to a 'real' football fan that the Talent Spotter link? Who cares what movies/adverts Ronaldo has been in all seriousness? I don't mean to be blunt but I really do feel that Football Talent Spotter could be the next big thing for Football Fans. Football nut (talk) 12:22, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Anyhow, appreciate your comments - will update the talk page later (but from experience I get little feedback from this exercise). Football nut (talk) 12:31, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

He clearly meets WP:N, and is a player listed on the Man U first team. Feel free to go to a better version, but I think you're hard-pressed to assert that the article is a speedy candidate at this point, or that the logic on the only AfD I can find still holds. Phil Sandifer (talk) 21:06, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, the way we don't do things on Wikipedia is to zealously ignore policy. WP:ATHLETE is, by its own admission, superceded by WP:N, which I have created a version of the article that unquestionably satisfies. The article is not a G4 - G4 does not apply to topics, but to article texts. I created a version that addressed the previous complaints by establishing notability via the alternate criteria listed in WP:ATHLETE. A G4 deletion would be completely out of process, given that the previous deletion was due to notability concerns, and this is a new version of the article (written without even looking at previous versions) that establishes notability under our policies. Club World Cup
Why revert my edits including the GMT Times of each event? They are useful to people who want to know when the games will be played in their own time-zone. The current system, with no Time Zone mentioned whatsoever, may cause confusion. Kie (talk) 21:13, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
GMT is relevant because it's seen as Universal Coordinated time, and also because the majority of people reading an English Wiki article about football, particularly with an English representative of Europe, are likely to be more interested in the GMT of the game's kick off rather than the Japanese time. Kie (talk) 21:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
I believe you are incorrect regarding this, for example Moscow, does not use CEST,and the European Cup Final in Manchester certainly didn't kick off at 20:45 local time. I do not see why you have a problem with Coordinated Universal Time being included. If you are not prepared to debate then do not remove my edits as though you are an authority figure. Why did you remove the link on FA Premier League?
I added a link from the Wikipedia page "FA Premier League" to a page on footballmedia.eu that houses direct web links to the 20 official premier league clubs, and shows the URL's in addition, which I cannot find on the Official Premier League website. This makes it far easier for researchers. In addition footballmedia.eu doesn't have any advertising so I would strongly request that you re-instate the link. I have added the link on Wikipedia's 'The Welsh Premier' page as well as 'The Scottish Premier' page and the moderators don't seem to have a problem. I intend adding the link to every Wikipedia page of every top flight football league in Europe (53 to be exact). What is the issue you have with this link may I ask? Thank you. Link taken off Welsh Premier site
Jay I think you are acting contrary to what is in the best interests of consistency and impartiality. You have taken off the link I put to the Welsh Premier page on http://www.footballmedia.eu but you have not taken off the other unofficial sites listed there - both of which were added by their respective webmasters. Where is the consistency here? This is a genuine complaint, and one which I will seek to escalate should you not re-consider. Regards, Dan
Link taken off Scottish Premier site
Jay, you are being very difficult about this. http://www.footballmedia.eu has a list of all the Scottish Premier League teams and next to it, their official website address and a direct link, saving lots and lots of time for anyone wishing to look at all of the Scottish Premier League websites. Why did you remove the link? Also, there is an unofficial blog site listed, which the administrator of added the link, so again there in an inherent conflict of interests. It seems you are not being consistent, therefore my complaint regarding this edit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.83.210 (talk) 12:03, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
FA Premier League 2006–07
Hi, I notice you undid my edit to FA Premier League 2006–07 with an addendum to the edit summary of "what for?".
I did this as currently the results table uses hyphens instead of ndashs, and this goes against the MoS. Also the XXX columns look messy, and seeing as fixes were needed I decided to implement the new template style at the same time, as it has the advantages of colour, standardised headers etc. Are you still against this change? world player of the year
Dear PeeJay2K3:
I have seen you a lot in football articles and I have to say you do a pretty good job updating facts, preventing vandalism, cleaning-up, etc. However, you seem to always want everything your way. Wikipedia is edited by everyone and to be viewed by everyone. When people wiki Ronaldo to see what award he has won, they would like to see the World Player of the Year Award. It is not your job to rate which award is significant or not. It is my job to add this fact to the article so that anyone looking for information regarding the award will come upon this. You are older than me; I hope you can get what I'm saying.
Cheers, Eddy

"Section titles should not be linked"
After I noticed you revert my edit to 2008 FIFA Club World Cup squads, I looked it up in the MOS, and you are correct that it says that. However, seemingly all other tournament squad articles contain links in section titles, and most even have flags too. The teams surely should be linked somewhere in the article, where should they be linked if not in the section title? I also notice that the accessibility reason given for the MOS ruling doesn't have a negative effect when the entire section title is a link, so there isn't even a disadvantage. MTC (talk) 11:40, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- Tbh, I tend not to question the MOS. Some of its guidelines may not make sense to me, but I always assume that there is a fairly good reason for anything said there. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I too noticed that other squad pages have links in the section titles, but I don't really have the time to remove them all. As an alternative to linking the section title, I would suggest writing a little prose in each section about when the preliminary squad was announced, and then about the changes that were made for the final squad. That way there should be at least one instance where you can link to the team. – PeeJay 12:11, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- Having reread the MOS and the linked section at WP:ACCESS, the section at WP:ACCESS specifically gives an exception: "unless the link text is the only text in the title", and the MOS says section titles should not contain links, which doesn't explicitly forbid links when the whole title is a link. (If you interpret this differently, it clearly needs to be reworded to be unambiguous.)
- The exception applies to tournament squad articles as long as flags aren't included too (they shouldn't be anyway, and aren't in 2008 FIFA Club World Cup squads). Would you agree with adding links now you've read this reasoning?
- For the record, I dislike the prose idea as it means links would only exist in the page after someone has taken the time to write prose for each one. MTC (talk) 12:46, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's fair enough. Readding the links shouldn't be a problem, but I would suggest that flags be removed from the articles that have them. – PeeJay 13:14, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- In that case, I have now readded the links. I agree that flags should be removed from the articles that have them, I have now removed them from 2007 FIFA Club World Cup squads, and I'll remove them from the other Club World Cup squad articles too, though it wouldn't surprise me if it is reverted. MTC (talk) 13:48, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's fair enough. Readding the links shouldn't be a problem, but I would suggest that flags be removed from the articles that have them. – PeeJay 13:14, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
James Cairns
I was doing more stub articles on United players when I cam across James Cairns. It looks like there may have been two James Carins that played one game each instead of on that played two games. One of them looks to have been a full back and the other looks to have been a forward. However, The Website of Dreams says there was only one. Do you know which is correct? There isn't any biographical data on either player, other than MUFCInfo has vastly different clubs that each played for. Patken4 (talk) 19:42, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
