thanks for tht - heeap of refs can go in yet but on limited time and i got annoyed seeing so many possible links to the location and red links only :) SatuSuro 08:16, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

No worries; came across it while new page patrolling. Was planning to look up refs myself rather than add the tags but I ran out of time. Somno (talk) 00:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

There are possibly three arts potentially evolving from it - the bidyadanga community might be expandable, the la grange mission might be potentially another - and the massacre/expedition already exist

Then there is a tie in with kimberley missions (another article) and kimberley aboriginal communities (another article) as I will be away next week - I wont even try to start any of those :) SatuSuro 00:36, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for that information i appreciate it, but how do i post stuff their —Preceding unsigned comment added by Entect (talkcontribs) 01:56, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Gulfton again

If you have time, please look at Gulfton, Houston, Texas again. This time it is under a GA review hold period and User:Derek.cashman is the reviewer. Dr. Cash asked me to add more material to the article which reflected Gulfton as a neighborhood, so I did so. I would like to know how to best deal with the education primary and secondary section, which is now very long and may need reorganizing. Even though Dr. Cash is the GA reviewer, both of us would like some more input in this. :) WhisperToMe (talk) 19:01, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

The review is in good hands with Dr Cash (best GA reviewer for articles about places, IMHO), but I'll have a look when I have some time and see if I can add anything. :) Somno (talk) 01:23, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Alright - thank you very much :) WhisperToMe (talk) 18:40, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice! I spun high school into its own section and the profile of a typical Gulfton public school student into its section. I haven't totally figured out what I will do with the elementary + middle school section. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:42, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Gulfton's now a GA! Thank you for your suggestions! WhisperToMe (talk) 02:33, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

That's great! Congratulations; nice to see that your hard work (and that of Dr Cash) paid off. :) Somno (talk) 04:32, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

No worries :P

Yeah, AWB is very sensitive to the mouse scroller. The tiniest click of it by accident and the description reverts to what you had in before. I was quite tired at the time I was doing the fixes and didn't notice until I clicked my watchlist and thought "oops", so made the null edits to correct them. Happened twice over the two days. Orderinchaos 02:45, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Good job with the changes though - but I could do without the watchlist flooding. Haha. :) Somno (talk) 02:52, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
As it's my second account doing most of the work, I can't block it off my own watchlist either, so I feel your pain. :P The good thing is with trying to do electorates, coords, pops and minor fixes all at the same time it should only require this one run. Thank God, because I'm bored with it already. Orderinchaos 03:07, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Oh and it goes without saying if you see anything in the specific areas you tend to watch which I've done which needs fixing (like a scale's out, or coords are not quite right or whatever) feel free to fix. Most of the coord figures I just grabbed off ga.gov.au and some of them are a little out. The purpose of it was after a discussion with one of the tech people on IRC I was told the reasons why Google Maps is both odd and rather selective in its sampling of WA coordinates in its Wikipedia layer - the thing needs to be near the beginning of the article, and needs to be not transcluded in a template. The person also showed me how to use the "city" field to best effect, so I was then able to set up an Excel spreadsheet and generate the coord profile from that. Has some talk on my talk page, that username being a sockpuppet of crashingthewaves and bloccked indefinetley I plan on removing the piece of talk. That's OK isn't it? I've only been here 3 weeks so I'm quite nooby at this. Sioraf (talk) 21:09, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

I cannot get to it but i can vouch for most of them - can give caricatures of the bunch here at some later date - not too cheeky but revealing in a way :) SatuSuro 01:30, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

The ones you can't vouch for are trouble, I take it? Haha. I'll definitely be there (if only to be prove there are women on teh interwebs) if other things don't get in the way. Somno (talk) 01:39, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Note the discussion on the talk page about possibly having it a couple of weeks earlier. Orderinchaos 10:23, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
One of the things on that date is moveable, so I'll see how that goes first. November is a really busy month for me, so I'll have the same prob no matter which weekend it is... but fingers crossed it'll be sorted. Somno (talk) 07:55, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Historic places

I certainly am, but I've been a bit busy, unfortunately. If you'd like to kick something off I'll gladly help out. Rebecca (talk) 06:41, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

OK, I will have a look at the Wikiproject stuff when I get a chance. Thought you might be too busy, but I didn't want to step on your toes. :) Somno (talk) 07:55, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
If he's not to busy as well orderinchaos has started more than little me - and worth a chat - but the last time i checked hes chockers in a manner of speaking - SatuSuro 09:14, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for creating the thing! I guess a couple of early tasks that come to mind are a) getting some sort of talkpage tag going, so we can work out how many existing artices we have that need maintaining (also good for finding ones that need expansion), and b) getting some sort of to-do list going, and working out where best to get items for that (National Trust, state registers, Commonwealth Heritage List, etc - which ones do we want to use?). Rebecca (talk) 03:11, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Wouldn't be a bad idea, I think. Nice to get a bit more assistance from the beginning if we can. Rebecca (talk) 03:53, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey!

I think that you should leave th Constable Christopher John Worden Page alone, for that it honours a Canadian Mountie who lost his life last year. If you need references on this person, Google search him for references, and I would appreciate it if you would create this page for me. Thanks a ton. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paranormal Research (talkcontribs) 04:56, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Paranormal Research. I did a Google search and read through the references you refer to. Constable Worden was a great man and it's sad that he died protecting the community, but as cold as it may seem, he doesn't meet Wikipedia's standard for notability because this is an enyclopedia, not a memorial site. This doesn't in any way diminish his achievements, but the guidelines here are quite strict. Regards, Somno (talk) 05:38, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Plonk!

Thanks for the encouraging message. You would probably recognise the call, there is a sound file in one of the links. Glad to see you are still contributing. What are you cooking up with Rebecca? cygnis insignis 03:39, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, probably, I will go have a listen - at night frogs are really noisy at my place so it's likely to be one I've heard before! Yep, I'm still here - glad to see you're back. We are cooking up WikiProject Australian historic places, but there's so much to do and it's going to take ages. Somno (talk) 03:50, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
If they don't make a single plonk sound in unison, they are very likely to be Litoria moorei - the Motorbike frog. Good to be back. In reference to the third thread of this conversation, regarding heritage site - cool! I've done a few obscure ones and plan to do some more. I gave up trying to decide which registers are more notable, I mention them all, they often list things for different reasons. cygnis insignis 04:05, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Ping!

stew

Just doing a very quick glimpse before jumping off - some states have not adequately separated out items that can be clearly placed into - Category:Australian historic places - Tasmania project which I know the best has made no attempt to do so - which means extra work pulling out places that have not be id'ed as such - also criteria of what is in or out needs to be very very very clear - and if you have any idea of the potential conflict between national, state and local government registers and what listing means at any of those levels (or only at one but not another and so on) - you are indeed a brave person :( SatuSuro 03:40, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, the category structure is a real mess!! I expect the trouble with conflicting registers, but as long as we define it, it should be OK... fingers crossed. Somno (talk) 03:50, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Aeroplane Jelly

Thanks for that citation fix. That sentence stood out like a sore thumb amongst the otherwise good text. Credits to you... -- Longhair\talk 04:36, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

BTW, I added the historic places WP to the WP:AUS navigation menu. -- Longhair\talk 04:38, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
No worries, I knew exactly why you'd tagged it as soon as I saw it - it looked like one of those dodgy, unverifiable "facts". :) Thanks for adding it to WP Oz. Somno (talk) 08:28, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Computers In Personnel

Nice work on turning Computers In Personnel into a proper article instead of an advert. I couldn't face doing it myself last night and it was nice to see it picked up an improved so quickly! Thanks. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 16:06, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Cathedral pics

concerning your reversion of Adam's pic... I did take the trouble to leave him an explanation as to the reasons for my reversion, but he deleted my message from his page. Unfortunately some people are more offended by an explanation than an edit war! Can't be helped! Amandajm (talk) 05:54, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

It seems sorted now. I like his photo, but I agree with you that it looked out of place in the lead. I think the two existing photos are complementary and best represent cathedrals, especially in thumbnail view. The best way to move on from issues is discussion, which was achieved in the end - even if our messages to his talk page were deleted, Adam read them and we communicated with him. Much better than edit warring, especially over something quite simple. :) Somno (talk) 06:05, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Regarding Entry of Data to List of Social Networks

How do you think that it is promotional ? Don't you think it deserves a place there ? The site in question is a geniune social network. I have a feeling that Wikipedia is becoming more like Dmoz!

Why tell people that they can edit anything they wish to ? When the modifications are deleted by Senior members within few minutes. I do not think i edited something which was non-compliant. If i did, please explain, rather than just pointing me to some pages of FAQ.

I am aware that you might be on Wikipedia for a long time and you might have contributed a lot, but i don't see a reason to keep on deleting other people's work.

GoodMorningManji (talk) 13:22, 16 November 2008 (UTC)GoodMorningManji

Hi GoodMorningManji. I see Cygnis insignis has responded to you on your talk page. As NawlinWiki and I have explained, articles need to meet guidelines to be in Wikipedia. According to the logs your article on TopNews Social was deleted three times because the it didn't show how/why the website met the notability guidelines.
Any website that is primarily focussed on social networking (as opposed to being focussed on something else like sharing photos, with social networking just an added feature) and has a Wikipedia article that shows it meets notability guidelines can be included in List of social networking websites. This criteria was agreed upon by editors on the article's talk page. To get TopNews Social onto the list, you need to write an article that shows how it meets the notability guidelines (and therefore won't be deleted). You can do this by including multiple independent, reliable references that discuss the website. If you draft a new version of the article on your user page, I can have a look and help you meet the guidelines, if you like? Somno (talk) 09:57, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the edit - loved the irony of the edit summary! :-) --Dweller (talk) 10:03, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Me too! Had to laugh when I saw that. I should "rix" things more often. Somno (talk) 11:06, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Wendover Will

Hi, I'm part of Wikiprojects Nevada that aims to extend Nevada's coverage. I have a few questions to ask about your edit to Wendover Will. First, I was wondering why you removed the image of him in front of the stateline casino. That is history relevant to Nevada's Project and shows him pre restoration in different set of clothes. Second, I was wondering why you removed the durham tobacco image. Again, this is relevant to article. Trust me, standing 60 feet down from it you do not know what it is and many people ask what is that circle on his pocket. The image gives a clear visual on what it is. Third, you removed the text that Wendover Will is in the Guiness books of world records as the tallest cowboy. This is also historically relevant. Fourth, I assume that copyvio was intended to say copybio? I did borrow heavily from the link but I didn't copy it. I don't want to create an enemy here and I don't want to get into an edit war. How do you suggest I procede with this article? Again, I think at the minimum the images should be added back. They are an historically relevant part of the article. As far as the copybio part. I can find another source to reference and/or reword it better to where someone won't perceive it as being copied. Please elt me know what you think. Thanks, --BoldSolitude (talk) 13:20, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi BoldSolitude. The image of Will in front of the casino had a questionable copyright status - it was a scan of a potentially-copyrighted postcard. I thought it best to remove the image until that issue had been sorted. Now that it has, no worries about it being in the article. I removed the Durham image because to me, it didn't add anything to the article. I did not remove the text that he's in the book of world records, I simply moved it to a special section titled "Recognition". "Copyvio" is a shortened version of "copyright violation". The article came to my attention because it was listed in suspected copyright violations, and most of the text was copied directly from this site. I rewrote this copyrighted text to avoid the article being deleted. Copyright violation is taken very seriously on Wikipedia, and "borrowing heavily" is not acceptable. So, my edits to the article were more than just deleting two images -- if you wanted to add the images back, it would have been more appropriate to just do that, rather than undoing my edit completely, because it reinstated all the copyrighted material I had fixed. I hope this has helped explain things - please let me know if you still have any questions. Regards, Somno (talk) 13:43, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. My undo didn't take, it was rejected due to some external reference I had tried to add. Your revision of the article is still there. I was actually glad the undo didn't take because I did like how you had revised the article and I have since left it like that. I went back and added the images back in. The durham might seem trivial but it gives a visual to a design element of Wendover Will. A lot of people have no idea what that is on his pocket. It's a design element that has remained on the cowboy through different paint changes. I have since learned the proper way of loading a image of a postcard so that it meets wikimedia guidelines. When I loaded this one I was under the impression that own scan of a work meant I could class it the way I did originally. That has been cleared up and I shouldn't have any problem going forward. I'm glad I learned it now instead of uploading more in the wrong manner. Thanks, --BoldSolitude (talk) 15:04, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
The image policy is quite tricky, so no one is expected to get that right straight away! ;) The important thing is understanding what to do next time, and it seems you've got that sorted now. I'm glad you liked my changes to the article, and it's fine that you added the images back. Keep up the good work. :) Somno (talk) 22:41, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

G12, credible assertions of release

Hi. This one may have been a one-off oversight, but I just wanted to point out that WP:CSD#G12 can't be used where there is a credible assertion of permission, as at Talk:Arthur Levering. I've blanked the article with the {{copyvio}} template and have notified the contributor how to verify. The article is listed at WP:CP, so if he does not verify within a timely fashion it will be deleted. Again, I know you may have simply overlooked the note in this case, but I figured I'd point it out to you in case you were unaware of this exception to G12. Thanks for helping to keep an eye on things. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:49, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank for you help somno. thank you for advice.

I am delink Timemaster link because it a wrong link to Different subect in french. just type in Timemaster you self. you see know what i mean Elmore2007 (talk) 10:10, 30 November 2008

The link to Time Masters (TV series) was correct - it's a redlink because there is no article. The link to Time Masters goes to the article about the French film, which is why the "TV series" part is stuck onto the end. Hope that makes sense. Also, you can insert your signature automatically onto talk pages by typing ~ four times (like ~~~~). If you need any help, just ask. :) Somno (talk) 10:20, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
