Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sports
Points of interest related to Sports on Wikipedia: Outline – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

- Here is my problem with these stand-alone articles. All four disciplines are often not contested. There are often not enough competitors to award a bronze medal, and in some cases, even a silver medal. Many of these competitions featured no more than two or three participants. And most of the competitors who are listed are redlinked or unlinked (ie. themselves not notable). The competition results and scores are included (or should be included) on a skaters' individual article. The medal results are included on the parent article (in this case, Mexican Figure Skating Championships). But these nations with small national championships are just not worth trying to maintain individual articles for each competition. Bgsu98 (Talk) 12:13, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

- Delete as WP:TOOSOON. I oppose moving to draftspace, as draftspace is not an indefinite holding area, and it will be 2+ years (probably longer) until more information is known. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:05, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Draftify: I don’t see WP:TOOSOON is a valid reason for deletion in this instance. According to WP:FUTURE, notable and highly likely future events should be included (such as 2032 Summer Olympics). Given that the venue has already been confirmed, the article could simply be updated or moved after the 2025 edition concludes or closer to that time and so I strongly oppose deletion.--— MimsMENTOR talk 09:14, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

- Delete. We should stamp out the perceived need to create articles more than half a decade ahead of its time. Wikipedia does not hold a contest for fastest creation of articles. More articles on future or even current events need to develop in draft space first, that what is the case today. Geschichte (talk) 12:24, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Strong Keep and draft: Articles will be needed in the future, it can be moved to draft space where it can develop until a point it is suitable for the main space. Mn1548 (talk) 09:43, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Mn1548: Drafts can only be stored for up to six months, according to WP:DRAFT, so sending this to draft space makes absolutely no sense. Considering that there isn't any content worth preserving, and the page can be easily recreated in the future. CycloneYoris talk! 06:09, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- That is a fair point. On second thoughts, my usual objections to deleteing articles that will be notable in the future regarding keeping the article as a source library doesn't apply in this case as such sources will be more available closer to the time for this article. A preference for draft is still here, but no objection to deletion. Mn1548 (talk) 14:25, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

- The title of the article can be changed to a more neutral wording, such as "British influence on the world".
- In my view, duplicated information is not a sufficient reason to delete this article. British influences on the world have taken place both before and after the British Empire, so having some kind of dedicated resource to discuss this seems fair, and the current Legacy of the British Empire link goes only to a relatively short section in the British Empire article, which is insufficient to communicate the full impact of British influence, as well as implicitly colouring to some extent the overall British impact in more of a Imperial-political light, rather than giving a wholly global overview. In general, it should be possible to learn (or at least be linked to) the same information from different articles on Wikipedia, as this allows for a more comprehensive coverage of any one given topic while still showing the linkages between various topics. Also, there are articles discussing many other forms of -"-isations", such as Americanisation or Croatisation, so having one for a prolifically influential country like Britain seems paramount. Matchup has only been played 15 times ever; only twice this millennium pbp 22:17, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- To clarify a concern above, the crux of this article isn't really GNG, it's more UNDUE, and the general idea that "does this topic warrant a stand-alone article?" I think there's a clear consensus that we DON'T need an article about every pair of teams that have played 15 times; even though each of those are likely to pass GNG because every football game played in the past few decades has a few newspaper or online articles written about it. Also relevant is NOTINHERITED; just because the Alabama and Penn State football teams are notable doesn't mean they meeting is too. pbp 20:52, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- The sources posted in this discussion establish that the rivalry is notable outside of the teams individual notabilities as they discuss the rivalry itself in detail. The wast majority of team matchups in sports are not considered anything special and do not get significant coverage written about them. This one does. Alvaldi (talk) 21:19, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep nomination does not address any policy rationale as to why this should be deleted, a very similar problem that this article's second AfD had six years ago. That AfD was a unanimous keep, as was the first one, and I'm not sure that anything has changed to overturn the prior overwhelming consensus. The fact that the teams have played "only twice this millennium" is entirely irrelevant to the notability of the article as notability is not temporary. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 23:31, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment. The thing that has changed since the first two AfDs is that we have tightened standards on what constitutes a true rivalry. If we are simply judging whether is a true "rivalry", I think the answer is "no". At the prior AfD, I noted: "Personally, I don't this is a 'rivalry' at all. There's no geographic tie, no regularity of play or scheduling, no fan base hatred, etc." I voted to "keep" because I have long believed that historically significant series can be notable ever where they are not true rivalries. My view on that point has not gained a lot of traction. Cbl62 (talk) 23:54, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Outside of the single decade (1981-90) when Alabama and Penn State played regular-season games every year, they have only met five times (1959, 1975, 1979, 2010, and 2011). I think this is really stretching the bounds of what can be considered either a rivalry or a notable series. With the expanded playoffs, it will become increasingly common for major programs like these to meet more frequently. This is probably setting a precedent to include yet more "non-rivalry" rivalries just because there are a couple of pregame articles hyping to the series as a rivalry. Cbl62 (talk) 00:17, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- If several independent and reliable sources significantly cover series of matchups between two teams as a rivalry over a significant period of time, as is the case here, then I see no problem having an article on said rivalry. Alvaldi (talk) 09:59, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep like PCN02WPS said, there is no policy reason stated to delete. Just because the rivalry hasn't been played recently doesn't mean GNG hasn't been passed. Article has sources from local newspapers, non-local newspapers, ESPN, AP. Esb5415 (talk) (C) 00:27, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Just because GNG has been passed doesn't necessarily merit a STAND-ALONE article pbp 20:55, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is a really difficult one, because sources say it's a rivalry, but it's also not a rivalry. Instead they had one famous bowl game followed by a 10 years when they played each other where both teams were really good, leading some sportswriters to call it a rivalry, but many others such as [1], [2] and [3], [4] don't. I think the question really is - can a group of games between two teams be notable for reasons other than being a rivalry? Because this might get this article to a keep and move, but I'm not sure what a better title would be. If not, delete. SportingFlyer T·C 00:32, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete Plenty of teams have played each other many times over the years, but that doesn't make it a rivalry. There is nothing of substance in this article that indicates why anyone should care about the fact that they've played each other, just a list of match-ups, indicating it's WP:SYNTH – no indication it's "historically significant." Reywas92Talk 03:02, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep Passes WP:GNG. Personal opinions of individual editors on whether this should be called a rivalry or not are irrelevant as there are several significant sources that speak of this as a rivalry, including Bama, PSU rivalry back after 20 years, Alabama, Penn State Renew Rivalry Of Respect, Intersectional rivalries becoming distant and Alabama-PSU rivalry has produced classic moments Alvaldi (talk) 09:49, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- But there's also many sources which don't. That's exactly the problem with this - "rivalry" gets thrown around a lot in American sports journalism without actually referring to what would be considered an actual rivalry. SportingFlyer T·C 14:56, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Several significant sources discussing their matchups clearly describe this as a rivalry and it easily passes WP:GNG. We do not ignore such significant coverage just because we can find some sources that don't mention the word rivalry in them. And it may not be much of a rivalry today but notability is not temporary. Alvaldi (talk) 15:42, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- GNG doesn't automatically mean STAND-ALONE article. Just because the Alabama and Penn State football teams are notable doesn't mean they meeting is too pbp 20:56, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- But the history of their meetings, i.e. their rivalry, has received enough significant coverage to pass WP:GNG and thus is suitable for a stand-alone article. Alvaldi (talk) 21:14, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

- Weak keep if renamed List of NFL quarterbacks who have beaten every team in the league and trimmed. (Also remove the criterion "beaten every team he faced at least once", which is just made up.) It satisfies NLIST, but only for every team, not every team but n (n=1, 2, 3, etc.). This is a rare achievement which requires a QB to go to another team and then beat his former team. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:16, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Alternatively merge to List of NFL individual records#Quarterback wins, but just the half dozen QBs who have done it all. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:26, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'd support a trim and merge. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:52, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- I personally don't believe the list should be trimmed to just those six players. The sources discuss a lot more players than just those six. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 19:29, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- If you want to trim list, it should include the six who beat all teams plus the qbs who stayed with one team throughout their career and beat all other teams (Bradshaw, Elway, ect.) Spparky (talk) 20:17, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

- Where are the sources that support this addition? I don't see any. (The closest I can find is that Mahomes is the youngest to beat all 31 other teams, and that's a different kettle of fish.) Otherwise, this is just an unwarranted stretching of the boundary. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:38, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

- Trim and merge to List of NFL individual records#Quarterback wins. Specifically, I would add a bullet for those retired QBs who have beaten all but one team if they spent their entire career with one team. This would remove Ken Stabler, Alex Smith and Kerry Collins because they played for multiple teams. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 20:11, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Kerry Collins is listed in three of the sources above though. Here is an excerpt: "Oddly, one other quarterback, Kerry Collins, beat 31 teams, but the team Collins never beat, the Dolphins, wasn’t one of the teams he played for. Collins actually started against the Dolphins four times while playing for four different teams, but lost all four games." ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:18, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- I find it more notable that a QB spent their entire career with one team and beat every other team in the league (31/31) than being traded and still not beating every team in the league (31/32). Collins wouldn't be on the list of "all but one" if he had never been traded since he never beat the Dolphins. In the end, that will be a decision to be made by the closing administrator. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 20:27, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

- If sources were the only criterion, then we would have hundreds of times more articles than we do now. I was featured in my hometown newspapers covering my Eagle Scout project, so should I have a Wikipedia article? The answer is no, because I do not meet WP:GNG despite the fact I can provide sources. At what point do we stop adding names to these lists? Your argument, to me, seems more along the lines of WP:ILIKEIT than putting forward any policy-based or guideline-based argument. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 19:15, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

- @Clarityfiend: You asked about my sources, so I provided a hypothetical to show that I can find sources for someone not notable (I specifically said I do not meet GNG). In reference to the pet peeve, I'm not typing the colons and asterisks. I am struggling to find sufficient in-depth coverage of the subject to meet WP:GNG. Most of the sources available contain routine coverage of an invite to a college all-star game, with a notable exception being this piece from Alabama News Center, which has maybe a half-dozen sentences of independent coverage of the subject. JTtheOG (talk) 05:08, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Sportspeople, American football, Alabama, and North Carolina. JTtheOG (talk) 05:08, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- @JTtheOG: The piece you linked (here) is a feature story (6,000+ characters) about Vinson. It's clearly SIGCOV. Do you disagree? This one also appears to be SIGCOV. It's pretty rare for offensive tackles to receives this level of coverage. Cbl62 (talk) 21:52, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- While a closer count yields closer to 10 sentences of coverage of the subject (most is quotes), the site itself seems to be some sort of corporate newsletter for Alabama Power, directly describing themselves as "one of several ways [the company] communicates with and advertises to its customers". They also have a section titled allegations of media manipulation on their WP article, but regardless, I do believe that this questionable source + six sentences of coverage of the subject in the AL.com article – which ends with an link to buy tickets to the game and a note that the site "may receive compensation" if you purchase a product through links on their site – at least warrants a discussion. Biographies, but BLPs especially, require strong sourcing. JTtheOG (talk) 23:03, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- On the two articles cited in the article, I would say (i) the depth is there in both cases to consitute WP:SIGCOV, (ii) such depth is rare for offensive linemen (especially at non-majors), (iii) AL.com (Alabama's largest media outlet) doesn't fail WP:INDY just because the article provides a link allowing readers to purchase tickets to the Senior Bowl, an annual collegiate all-star game that is played in Mobile, and (iv) I don't see any COI in the piece from Alabama News Center, since there is no connection (unless I'm missing it) between Vinson and the utility company that funds the outlet. Cbl62 (talk) 06:56, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Simply put, a corporate newsletter with no published editorial policy or staff page from an energy company with a shady recent history of media manipulation doesn't strike me as a reliable source to report on college football, especially as the main piece of SIGCOV on a BLP. JTtheOG (talk) 07:36, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see how you can call it "
a corporate newsletter
". It is a news website owned by a public utility company. While unusual, this is unfortunately an era in which corporate/billionaire ownership of media (including The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, etc.) has become increasingly common. I don't believe that such ownership taints all of a media outlet's coverage. Clearly, any coverage of the owner's other business interests would involve a conflict of interest and thus be non-independent. However, as stated above, there's no conflict here with reportage on a local college athlete. Even if that were a problem, there's coverage in multiple other media outlets, including those set forth below. Cbl62 (talk) 13:50, 17 December 2024 (UTC)- Once again, it’s a matter of reliability not COI. A company’s media wing is not the same thing as a newspaper of record owned by a billionaire. Keep. See the points raised above. Also, his notability is supported by being the first player from an HBCU ever selected for the honor of playing in the Senior Bowl. In addition to the two SIGCOV sources already cited in the article, there are others. E.g., (3) this from SI.com focusing of Vinson being the first HBCU player selected to play in the Senior Bowl (quite a historic honor), (4) a six-minute piece from Fox 54 (here) focusing on the historic nature of Vinson's selection for the Senior Bowl, (5) this piece from WHNT Huntsville, and to a lesser extent (6) this from SI.com rating him one of the top offensive tackles in FCS and (7) this rating him as one of the top three HBCU football players. All said, I think it's enough to pass our GNG standard. Cbl62 (talk) 06:56, 17 December 2024 (UTC)- Comment He's not actually the first HBCU player ever selected to the Senior Bowl. There have probably been a lot. Those sources just mean he's the first one (and possibly only one) this year. This additional source about Vinson says "Pro Football Hall of Famer John Stallworth, an Alabama A&M legend and 1974 Senior Bowl alum, was on hand to deliver the invitation." Stallworth was a HBCU Senior Bowl selection in 1974. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 16:56, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks WikiO. That's helpful and makes Vinson's selection less impressive. I'd probably lean more toward Draftify or a weak keep in that case. Cbl62 (talk) 18:22, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Leaning Keep, per Cbl62. Probably has enough coverage, especially since it's rare for low-level FCS offensive tackles to receive much coverage at all. (Also, WikiOriginal-9 is correct regarding HBCU players at the Senior Bowl. He's the only one this year, not ever, although it looks like there's only been one other across the 2022-25 Bowls per AL.com, so still pretty rare.) BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:44, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Draftify makes sense as well per Cbl62 – given that he was selected to the Senior Bowl, there's a decent chance he could be chosen in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft (in the Alabama News Center article, his coach said that "He's had every NFL team come and look at him this year – He's gonna get drafted in this year's draft".) Draftify as I am struggling to find much of any in-depth coverage of the subject, failing WP:GNG. Despite the WP:REFBOMB, everything that comes up is basic coverage of either his college commitment (or de-commitment) or his transfer to another school, with some quotes and stats sprinkled in. This is what we would call "routine transactional announcements" in other sports. JTtheOG (talk) 04:20, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep (I was pinged by the article creator, but I was already planning on participating). Cbl62's coverage looks sufficient. Also, I don't buy the "routine" argument – if someone receives SIGCOV for e.g. transferring, then that's SIGCOV in accordance with GNG, especially if it's national-level coverage like we have here. BeanieFan11 (talk) 18:55, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Weak keep I personally don't think he should be notable enough for Wikipedia - the sources presented are all essentially "he transferred, then he didn't" and are arguably primary, and I only see one source which goes into how he played as opposed to where he signed and it's local, but the sources above go into enough detail about him that it's hard to argue they don't pass GNG. We really need to create an article that sums up NFL alternate broadcasts (including the Nickelodeon versions) that will properly catalog them in an appropriate way. Placing this in the MNF article as a sentence I don't think is an elegant solution (the Toy Story broadcast was a one-off of an international NFL game on Sunday morning while this was clearly upfront much more). - Oppose: Firstly, the tournament is notable due to its extensive media coverage, high viewership, substantial incentives, and official recognition as a major event by the NBA itself. Secondly, the coverage of the final is on par with other significant championship games, such as the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship Game, 2024 NBA Finals and MLS Cup 2024. Lastly, the page offers more than just a game summary; it includes detailed information about the rosters, pre-game context, and the aftermath. H-Hurry (talk) 07:10, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Merge I don't understand this pathology to create articles for individual games when the main article can cover it just fine. Most of this page is duplicative of the tournament pages, and other details like the aftermath are welcome to be added there. Reywas92Talk 14:46, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

- This may need attention from people with more knowledge of bodybuilding competition. This person does show up on sites about competitive bodybuilding—a news hit appears to verify her placement in 2003 and 2004 "Figure Olympia" competitions, though in this article they are listed as "Arnold Figure". Her name also appeared on other sites related to bodybuilding, though I did not investigate them thoroughly. I did not find any book hits, but I was not certain of the best search formula, and may have missed something.
- Although my search results were minimal, I am also concerned that the nominator said nothing about attempting to find reliable searches before nominating the article for deletion, which is expected by WP:BEFORE. Since at least some sources are out there, and local news is not always easy to find, I would like to know that someone with more expertise in the subject has tried to find material that could be cited here. P Aculeius (talk) 11:52, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- I guess that could have been ambiguous so I clarified above. I did try, and while I'm no expert in the subject, I have been here for 15 years so consider myself reasonably good at finding sources in general. But if someone can find sources that I didn't, I would be only too happy; I far prefer improving articles to deleting them. --GRuban (talk) 12:45, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for that. Since all I found was a handful of mentions on bodybuilding sites, with nothing particularly substantial, I'll just leave that if it helps anyone who knows where else to look before this article is deleted. Obviously, if the article is deleted first, there would be no objection to recreating it if adequate coverage to demonstrate notability turns up later. P Aculeius (talk) 13:26, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

Played 2 league matches and 1 cup match before disappearing from professional football. This stats stub gives no indication of passing WP:SPORTBASIC either. Sportsup contains a trivial mention of him in a list of players transferred out. Sigma Live and a few other sources contain a mention of a player of the same name who was the assistant manager of Panachaiki from 1971 to 1978 so clearly a different person (but possibly a relative) given the connection to the same club. 27 years old and his only professional appearance was 13 minutes in the League Cup for Wolves five years ago. Went on to very low levels of football in Cyprus, Portugal and Austria Sources on page are mostly primary or the match report in general of the one game he played. Clearly, in 13 minutes, there's little he did that warrants wider coverage than the mere fact he signed for Wolves. He makes a listicle in the local media of Wolves youngsters who didn't crack it, [12], but I'm not sure that gives him Sonny Pike levels of notoriety for not making it. Could possibly be redirected to a list of Wolves players (his one achievement), or the personal life section on his dad's page. Unknown Temptation (talk) 20:56, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Same birthplace, surname and country of work as Ricardo Carvalho, but with drastically different career. Entire professional career was 34 minutes in second division, in two substitute appearances. [13] This source here as part of a list of signings in a local source says that he was an international for Andorra, but this is not supported by any database (playing for Andorra is an absurdly low benchmark in international football and he doesn't seem to have crossed it). [14] The search "Nuno Carvalho Lleida" doesn't even produce any sources about his brief professional career, just a forum post quoting a news story about his contract. [15] Player passed the defunct WP:NFOOTY but not WP:GNG Unknown Temptation (talk) 20:28, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete: This comes up, but I don't know if it's the same person [16]. It appears to be an interview anyway, so not really helpful for notability. I don't find enough sourcing to build an article. Oaktree b (talk) 20:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, the name is very common in Portugal. This appears to be a completely different person as the interview suggests it's about a handball player. This player went from Maia, Portugal to Italy just like Bruno Fernandes but that's where the similarity ends. Played four substitute games (67 minutes) in Italian third tier, then disappears off the radar for eight years until he's playing in Spain's fifth tier. I know it's not a reliable source for an article, but it is completionist, and Transfermarkt [18] indicates in that time he was playing at extremely low levels in Italy, Spain and Croatia. I know that mainstays and top scorers in Serie C will have enough coverage to pass WP:GNG, but it's hard to apply that to someone whose peak was at this relatively low level for just 67 minutes. Non-notable soccer stadium that fails both WP:GNG and WP:NARENA, which holds that athletic stadia are neither presumptively notable nor inherit the notability of any teams that play there. Significant coverage has not been demonstrated to exist, the article has been inadequately sourced for over fifteen years now (and was notability tagged for 12 years), its only current source is primary. Previous AfD went keep on the basis of several "It's notable," "It's big," and "Important games have been played there," among other illegitimate reasons. Ravenswing 09:43, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete zero notability established. Sole source is from the home club, their website also doesn't appear to exist anymore. Looking at the previous AfD (which you also nominated), all of the keep arguments completely violated WP:INHERIT and WP:NARENA (which some of them even used as a keep argument), and the closing admin looks to have simply done a vote count. - Keep there seems to be independent written match reporting (as opposed to just results) for some of his fights on Asian MMA - example Here I dont know enough about MMA coverage to know if this counts as significant coverage or not, but it seems like several taken together might… as well as plenty of Japanese sources if you search using his name in Kanji - This article of example for his fighting, and This article as an example of the coverage around his domestic violence scandal. All in all there seems to be enough coverage to satisfy general notability, and then it’s just a matter of someone adding the information from those sources to the article and citing them properly. Comment Both of the articles mentioned by Absurdum4242 are recaps of RIZIN 48 and focus on two things: Hagiwara's second 3 fight losing streak in his last 7 fights and the domestic abuse he was accused of that same day. His current ranking as the #549 featherweight by figthmatrix.com clearly doesn't show WP notability. I don't see how multiple sources reporting on the same fight card results with both reports mentioning charges being filed meets WP:GNG. It's clearly not a big enough event to provide notability on its own. The "no comments" or "we don't know" from fight officials does nothing to increase notability. I was going to even describe the details of said event in the "Production" section. I really see no reason why this article should be deleted, it serves it's purpose, it's grouped in with the others and every other yearly event associated with it has it's own article. Lemonademan22 (talk) 00:11, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete: Using an article from 2006 for a TV show almost 20 yrs later as sourcing isn't showing notability. This is about typical [24], seems to be a series of tv shows, rather than one special. I don't see anything showing this particular incarnation was very notable. Oaktree b (talk) 22:36, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm guessing you're not in the wrestling sphere, these are different comapanies with no relation to one another with seperate names and seperate specials. The company that hosted this event isn't even 10 years old. Lemonademan22 (talk) 00:26, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Well, 2006 is more than 10 years ago, I don't know what to tell you. Oaktree b (talk) 01:55, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- All Elite Wrestling, the actual wrestling promotion who hosted the event, was founded in 2019. The event is not connected to the ones from 2006 as they are in a different promotion under an entirely different name. That is a fact and nothing else. - He's saying that somehow the reference used for this article was created in 2006. Realistically that source just says an outline of how wrestling works. It doesn't help push towards WP:GNG and, in this case, show WP:NOTINHERITED doesn't apply. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 14:18, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- To be honest this article could just be tagged to be worked on and I'd gladly spend more time on it. It doesn't need to be full on deleted. Lemonademan22 (talk) 16:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Can you show that is it a notable event enough to meet WP:GNG and WP:NOTINHERITED not just as a regular Dynamite episode? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:30, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- I think I can.
- Firstly, it is the fourth of five specials that has happened since 2019, not counting 2020 as one was not held, and all of them have articles.
- Secondly, it was watched by almost 1 million people alone (Source: [25] ) and broadcast on TBS one of the biggest cable networks in America.
- Thirdly, it was extensivley covered while the action was happening by Bleacher Report (Source [26] ) which is one of the biggest online sports news companies in America also and it was also covered by news outlet Cageside Seats (Source: [27]), a division of SB Nation, another big American news outlet.
- The evidence in my opinion is clear that this is quite notable, albeit the article does lack secondary sources it would not be an issue to add them as long as the article does not get deleted as I wouldn't be able to then. Lemonademan22 (talk) 16:40, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- seems like routine content to me. It was watched by almost the exact same amount the week before. Cageside seats and bleacher report are both unreliable sources, but even if they weren't, they also cover most episodes of Dynamite. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:14, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- And the ratings were actually down from the previous week in the key 18–49 demo. JTtheOG (talk) 20:19, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Probably because it was before Thanksgiving? Personally I don't see the difference. Lemonademan22 (talk) 23:49, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Per Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Sources, Bleacher Report is a "limited reliable source", CagesideSeats is listed as an unreliable source so that's fine but I was illustrating the point that big news outlets were covering the action and the episode. - And the ratings were actually down from the previous week in the key 18–49 demo. JTtheOG (talk) 20:19, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Can you show that is it a notable event enough to meet WP:GNG and WP:NOTINHERITED not just as a regular Dynamite episode? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:30, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oh this? That's on every single wrestling article covering a PPV, special episode ect. that's nothing new on Wrestling articles on Wikipedia, it's always used. It shouldn't make a difference. If secondary sources are what you want I'll put them on the article and improve it that way than it being deleted. Lemonademan22 (talk) 16:31, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be what's required. Multiple reliable third party sources talking in depth about the subject that aren't just WP:ROUTINE coverage. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:34, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- To be honest this article could just be tagged to be worked on and I'd gladly spend more time on it. It doesn't need to be full on deleted. Lemonademan22 (talk) 16:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm still not understanding. I read the article but how can you connect this special with an unrelated 2006 special that I've never even heard of from a different company? Lemonademan22 (talk) 14:01, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- They are referring to the source in the article being from 2006. JTtheOG (talk) 03:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- All Elite Wrestling, the actual wrestling promotion who hosted the event, was founded in 2019. The event is not connected to the ones from 2006 as they are in a different promotion under an entirely different name. That is a fact and nothing else. Lemonademan22 (talk) 02:21, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Well, 2006 is more than 10 years ago, I don't know what to tell you. Oaktree b (talk) 01:55, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm guessing you're not in the wrestling sphere, these are different comapanies with no relation to one another with seperate names and seperate specials. The company that hosted this event isn't even 10 years old. Lemonademan22 (talk) 00:26, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

- Merge somewhere: AEW as of late has gone towards adding more subtitles to the weekly shows, but whereas specials such as Blood & Guts or Grand Slam are built like PPVs, the Thanksgiving Eve shows tend to be on the "regular episode with a subtitle bolted on" end of the spectrum. It's a plausible search term, so I'd err against full-scale deletion, but I'm not convinced it was really that special. Sceptre (talk) 00:16, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- I actually agree with this. @Lee Vilenski what if we merge all Thanksgiving Eve Dynamites in one article similar to Saturday Night's Main Event and have the existing articles as redirects. Lemonademan22 (talk) 01:19, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Also @JTtheOG. Lemonademan22 (talk) 01:20, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- How are these Thanksgiving episodes any different from regular Dynamite episodes though? We shouldn't have an article simply becuase it has an appendix to the shows name, or every Christmas episode of every TV show would have its own article. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:15, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- They are longer episodes of Dynamite and, among that, are allowed a special over run and often showcase special match ups, for example this special heavily features the Continental Classic tournament. They are also built like PPVs in a way that they feature "blow-off" matches to feuds and storylines. That's why I think they're notable enough. Although I think merging all of them together is a good idea. Lemonademan22 (talk) 15:53, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

I can't find any extended discussion of this living person, or any distinction making her automatically notable. Databases record her having had a professional beach volleyball career; she has appeared once or twice in Playboy publications/websites; she ran for local office once. I reduced the article in this edit, removing some poor sources (a magazine search, a Getty images search, a brief TV segment via YouTube) and some unreferenced personal information, but I conclude that notability can't be demonstrated. This appears to be a borderline WP:NBIO case that falls just short of passing the criteria. The subject does have some of his own accomplishments in the realm of skateboarding, but the coverage seems insufficient by WP:SIGCOV standards. Source 1 is a passing mention of him in a list of names, source 2 is dead and I couldn't find an archive, source 3 is an interview so not independent, and the only other sources are dead links to what appears to be his defunct website. A WP:BEFORE search led me to minor coverage from skateboarding magazines, and more interviews and primary sources. This guy does appear closer to his own notability than the limited sourcing on this page would portend, but I couldn't find enough coverage of him in my BEFORE search to quite hit the threshold of WP:GNG. He makes a listicle in the local media of Wolves youngsters who didn't crack it, [32], but I'm not sure that gives him Sonny Pike levels of notoriety for not making it. Could possibly be redirected to a list of Wolves players (his one achievement), or the personal life section on his dad's page. Unknown Temptation (talk) 20:56, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Same birthplace, surname and country of work as Ricardo Carvalho, but with drastically different career. Entire professional career was 34 minutes in second division, in two substitute appearances. [33] This source here as part of a list of signings in a local source says that he was an international for Andorra, but this is not supported by any database (playing for Andorra is an absurdly low benchmark in international football and he doesn't seem to have crossed it). [34] The search "Nuno Carvalho Lleida" doesn't even produce any sources about his brief professional career, just a forum post quoting a news story about his contract.
- Alternatively merge to List of NFL individual records#Quarterback wins, but just the half dozen QBs who have done it all. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:26, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

- Your example, an article in a local paper about a local person/event, does not qualifiy as a Wikipedial source. You are confusing verifiability with notability. - @Clarityfiend: You asked about my sources, so I provided a hypothetical to show that I can find sources for someone not notable (I specifically said I do not meet GNG). In reference to the pet peeve, I'm not typing the colons and asterisks. That is Wikipedia's "Reply" function probably just adding a colon to the end of whatever indenting text already exists. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 23:06, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Sports writers have written about QBs with wins against all teams as a group (I'm stretching just to include the two who beat the 28 then-existing teams), as demonstrated by WikiOriginal-9. None have written about all but one, with or without weird qualifiers/conditions, as a group (sorry, Collins). Clarityfiend (talk) 04:26, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

This player went from Maia, Portugal to Italy just like Bruno Fernandes but that's where the similarity ends. Played four substitute games (67 minutes) in Italian third tier, then disappears off the radar for eight years until he's playing in Spain's fifth tier. I know it's not a reliable source for an article, but it is completionist, and Transfermarkt [45] indicates in that time he was playing at extremely low levels in Italy, Spain and Croatia. I know that mainstays and top scorers in Serie C will have enough coverage to pass WP:GNG, but it's hard to apply that to someone whose peak was at this relatively low level for just 67 minutes.
- Strong keep per above sources identified by Canary757. That Magyar Nemzet article is a brilliant example of sigcov (and even has other outlets reporting on parts of it). Further coverage can be found in Index.hu, M4sport.hu, 24.hu, further coverage in Index.hu, HVG.hu and Origo.hu. Trouble is that googling "Pal Székely" rarely returns any coverage because of Hungarian naming customs which put the name as "Székely Pal", but googling the latter or "Székely Penge" finds some very strong coverage indicating he's nationally notable in Hungary. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 09:58, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- The Nemzet article has only a paragraph of coverage; the rest is interview quotes which do not count towards GNG as primary and non-independent. The first three other sources also appear to be just Q&A interviews. Can you find some non-interview coverage of him? JoelleJay (talk) 22:21, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm curious about the status of interviews; when I check GNG, the reference to secondary sources is that they need "at least one secondary source" (which in this situation would be the latter Index article) and then says sources "should" be secondary. Then when I check WP:PRIMARY it says "(depending on context) interviews", which links me to WP:Reliable_sources#News organizations, in which there is... nothing listed about the aforementioned interviews. Is the inference here that any sort of interview content, regardless of how widespread or what source it's in, is entirely worthless and bunk in determining notability? ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 16:06, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- The general consensus has been that secondary content from the interviewer, e.g. background on the interviewee prepared before the interview, can count towards GNG if it's SIGCOV, but anything coming from the interviewee (either directly in quotes or lightly paraphrased by the interviewer) is not independent or secondary. I'd say the Index article is verging on a routine recap (personally I would classify it as fully routine, as it's just briefly reporting his performance in one tournament). JoelleJay (talk) 20:24, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- I see, thanks for the clarification. Well, I'm finding it hard, owing to my lack of Hungarian (I'm presuming there may be more hidden mentions such as the "Székely Palnak" ones that wouldn't initially come up on search) to find further sources. I'll just hope that whoever closes this will note the various Hungarian national sporting outlets that've gone to the bother of interviewing the subject in detail; even if not counted in the rule-based notability check, it's at least some sort of background showing this isn't just some complete unnotable. ser! RelistI think this one warrants more investigation. Significant coverage in the Hungarian Sports newspaper Nemzeti Sport such as [55] and [56]. Also some here on Blikk website.[57] A google search for his name and nemzeti sport shows multiple strong hits so may well be notable in Hungary. Canary757 (talk) 07:05, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep per above coverage (though the Nemzeti Sport links seem to be the same one), with even more coverage available in Hungarian language websites - Hatharom, Nemzeti Sport and interviewed in part in Bunteto. Interestingly, Nemzeti Sport in an article specifies that there was "another final success, but not from János"... that's gotta be at least some sign of notability that they've gotta specifically mention it wasn't him, right? Anyway, further research would benefit from using the Hungarian-language versions of his name - either "Végső János" or "Végső Jánosnak". ser! MMA fighter fails WP:NMMA (no evidence of ever ranking in world top 10 for division) and WP:NSPORT/WP:GNG for lack of WP:SIGCOV. Absurdum4242 (talk) 16:22, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
